With only a few days left until the end of The Boys Season 5, the series finale will determine what happens to all the main characters. Warning: Spoilers ahead for Episodes 1-7 of Season 5! Even though The Boys is known for being incredibly violent, I believe a good number of characters will actually make it through the final episode.
As a huge fan of The Boys, I’m already reeling from all the deaths this season – A-Train’s choice, the shocking losses of Firecracker and Black Noir II, and even Frenchie’s really tough ending. I know the final fight with Homelander is going to be brutal, and honestly, I’m hoping some major players – including Homelander himself – don’t make it. But I’m also realizing it would be tough to really feel the impact of too many hero deaths in just one episode. Plus, there are plenty of awful fates worse than death for the remaining villains. So, I’ve been putting together my predictions for who will survive and who won’t in the Season 5 finale.
12) Soldier Boy – Lives

In Season 5, Episode 7 of The Boys, Homelander returns Soldier Boy to cryo-sleep, and according to showrunner Eric Kripke (via Collider), that’s the last we’ll see of Jensen Ackles’ character on the main show. While it’s possible Soldier Boy could still die – perhaps in a fiery Vought Tower or from a dangerous supe virus – those scenarios seem unlikely. A simple unconscious state wouldn’t be a satisfying end for the character. It’s more likely Soldier Boy will survive, posing a future threat in potential spin-offs or sequels. Some fans, including myself, now believe the Vought Rising spin-off might even jump to the present day, which would raise the stakes and tension considerably.
11) Oh-Father – Dies

Daveed Diggs’ character, Oh-Father, is a standout addition to Season 5 of The Boys, but it seems unlikely he’ll make it to the end of the series. While he consistently supports Homelander, even when things get dicey, cracks start to show in the second-to-last episode. Oh-Father needs time to convince people to worship Homelander as a god, but Homelander demands immediate loyalty, creating a potential conflict. Considering that new characters on The Boys often don’t survive long, Oh-Father’s chances of making it through the finale don’t look good.
10) Sister Sage – Lives

It’s uncertain whether Sister Sage will survive the finale of The Boys Season 5, but I think she’ll make it. Even though she made a big mistake in Episode 6, she’s usually good at anticipating what others will do. She misjudged Soldier Boy, who’s known for being unpredictable, but she’s always been right about Homelander. That’s why I believe she’ll likely avoid him, especially since she has a bunker to hide in. While the show might try to redeem her by having her make a heroic sacrifice, that would be a drastic change for her character. If the show wants to show her growing, it would make more sense for her intelligence to be used to help rebuild things after Homelander is defeated. This would allow her to remain self-focused while still making amends for her past actions. There’s also a small possibility that everything is going exactly as she planned, which would be an amazing surprise!
9) Ashley Barrett – Lives

Ashley Barrett is a unpredictable character heading into the finale of The Boys Season 5, especially after her choices in Episode 7. Throughout the season, Colby Minifie’s character struggles with doing what’s right versus what benefits her personally. She essentially has a conscience, but often ignores it. In the second-to-last episode, Ashley completely silences it, choosing to protect herself and maintain her position instead of opposing Homelander. The shot of her conscience falling silent is unsettling, hinting that she won’t find redemption. While this could mean her death – as siding with Homelander rarely ends well – I believe a more likely fate awaits her, given how much she cares about her public image. She’ll probably survive the series, ultimately being blamed for everything that’s happened. This would be a tragic twist to her ambition of becoming president, especially considering her lie about having powers all along. And once Homelander is gone, someone needs to take the blame, and Ashley is perfectly positioned to do so.
8) The Deep – Lives

From the beginning of The Boys, many viewers have anticipated The Deep’s demise. However, it seems the show has a more fitting fate in mind for him: a life marked by loneliness, shame, and constant anxiety. After letting a man drown – an event caught on video – his reputation is ruined, and even the sea creatures are after him, effectively ending any chance of a heroic comeback. This means he’ll truly face the consequences of his actions, which is a more impactful punishment than simply being killed off – even if a Samuel L. Jackson-voiced shark taking him down would be fun to watch.
7) Ryan – Lives

Ryan hasn’t been a major focus in Season 5 of The Boys, and while he’ll likely appear in the final episode, his story probably won’t end there. I believe Ryan is being set up to become Vought’s next Homelander – continuing the cycle Stan Edgar has hinted at. He doesn’t seem loyal to either Homelander or Butcher, but he does appear to trust Zoe and Stan, making him perfect for carrying out Stan’s plans. He has all of Homelander’s powers, but he’s more level-headed and easily influenced. Season 5 does show a darker side to Ryan, however, suggesting that taking over for his father might not be a positive development…but it does create possibilities for future stories beyond The Boys series.
6) M.M. – Lives

Throughout most of The Boys Season 5, Mother’s Milk operates under the belief that he and his team won’t survive. Given the dangers they face, that’s understandable. However, I suspect if Mother’s Milk was going to die, it would have happened in the second-to-last episode. The episode title, “The Frenchman, the Female, and the Man Called Mother’s Milk,” deliberately hints at the fate of these characters in the comics, creating suspense. We expect Frenchie, Mother’s Milk, and Kimiko to be in danger in Episode 7, and unfortunately, Frenchie is killed. While I still think Mother’s Milk is a likely candidate to die in the finale – aside from Butcher – I believe it’s more probable that he’ll find a reason to keep fighting. It would be satisfying to see him reconnect with his family, and I’m hoping for a hopeful ending for his character.
5) Kimiko – Lives

After Frenchie’s death in Season 5, Episode 7 of The Boys, it’s important that Kimiko has a future beyond the show’s ending – and not just because she’s capable of stopping Homelander. She’s expressed a desire for a quiet, peaceful life after the conflict, and considering everything she’s been through, she deserves it. Frenchie would have wanted that for her too, making her survival a fitting tribute to both their characters. Killing them both after all they’ve endured would be unnecessarily tragic. Letting Kimiko live would also be a positive contrast to her willingness to sacrifice herself for others. And honestly, her final scene needs to include Simone, her Bernadoodle! Eric Kripke, give the fans what they want!
4) Starlight – Lives

I think Starlight will make it through the final battle with Homelander, just like other characters who’ve overcome difficult odds. It’s the only ending that feels right for The Boys. From the start, Starlight and Hughie seemed likely to survive, and while the show could always surprise us, Season 5 really focused on Annie’s internal struggles. Episode 7 felt like she was finally starting to find her strength again, and the finale will likely build on that, giving her hope for the future and making the whole fight feel meaningful. Plus, the public needs to recognize how wrong they were about Starlight, and while she could become a martyr, she deserves to be properly acknowledged and apologized to after everything she’s been through.
3) Hughie Campbell – Lives

Considering both the original comic book series and his development in the Prime Video show, Hughie is the most likely member of ‘The Boys’ to make it to the end of Season 5. Unlike his teammates, who become increasingly cynical, Hughie consistently maintains a sense of optimism. This makes his recent shift in attitude particularly noticeable. However, Hughie’s persistent determination suggests he’ll persevere through whatever challenges come next. It would also fit his character – a normal person without powers or special training – for him to survive.
2) Billy Butcher – Dies

From the start of The Boys, Butcher’s story has been heading towards a tragic conclusion: his death. Having lost Becca twice, he’s consumed by revenge and is willing to die to achieve it. Season 5 reinforces that he isn’t thinking about a future beyond that. While characters like M.M. and Starlight have reasons to keep fighting, Butcher doesn’t really have anything to live for – perhaps his son, Ryan, or the rest of the team, but he seems prepared to leave them all behind. It’s unlikely both he and Hughie will survive, but I predict Hughie will ultimately reach the Juicy Rack as a tribute to Butcher.
1) Homelander – Dies

The show The Boys aims to poke fun at the negative aspects of our world, so it’s unlikely Homelander will ultimately succeed. However, having him win would be a disappointing ending, and it would feel like the story isn’t really over. He needs to be truly defeated in the finale, and simply taking away his powers isn’t enough. He could always get more Compound V, like Kimiko, and even without powers, many people would still want him dead. If the other characters manage to beat him, they’ll likely ensure he stays defeated.
