Natalie Portmanis living la vie en rose.
Over ten years after moving from Los Angeles to Paris, the Academy Award-winning actress—who is expecting her first child with Tanguy Destable—recently shared a peek at springtime in the city.
Natalie recently shared a glimpse of her life in Paris on social media. The post, featuring photos from museums like the Picasso Museum, Grand Palais, and Fondation Louis Vuitton, also included adorable pictures of her rescue dog, Sunday. Natalie is also a mother to Aleph, 14, and Amalia, 9, with her ex-husband, Benjamin Millepied. She simply captioned the photos, “Paris lately.”
Okay, so things have been crazy busy for her, and honestly, I’m just living for it! She’s going to be a mom again – three kids! She announced she was pregnant back in April and I’ve been following every little update since. It’s just… amazing to watch her glow!
“I’m incredibly thankful,” the Star Wars actor told Harper’s Bazaar in a recent interview. “I realize how lucky and fortunate I am.”
Growing up with a father who specialized in fertility, she was always aware of how difficult it can be to conceive. Many people she cares about have struggled with this, so she’s careful to be sensitive when discussing pregnancy. She believes it’s a wonderful and happy event, but also acknowledges it doesn’t come easily for everyone.
Now that she’s raised two children, Natalie feels much more confident as a parent. She used to rely heavily on parenting books, but now she says, ‘We’ve got this!’ She’s learned that it’s okay to make mistakes – every parent does – and that you also naturally do a lot of things right without overthinking it.
She continued, “I feel like if you’re just present and loving, that’s the best thing possible.”
The star of May December is expecting a new baby, who will be raised in Paris. Natalie Portman has spoken about how much her family enjoys living in France, telling Net-a-Porter in May 2025 that the country offers them a lot of privacy.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m always fascinated by where people choose to build their lives! Right now, everyone’s buzzing about Natalie Portman expecting her little one in Paris, which got me thinking… she’s definitely not the only celebrity who’s traded in Hollywood for a life elsewhere. Let’s take a peek at some other stars who’ve found home beyond the usual Los Angeles scene.

Following a serious heart attack in 2019, the actor best known for The Mask of Zorro returned to his hometown of Málaga, Spain, to dedicate himself to performing on stage.
In March 2026, Antonio told The Times that the experience completely changed his perspective on life. Confronting his own mortality led him to reflect and recognize his core identity as an actor.
The Tony Award nominee, who still acts in TV and movies sometimes, now owns a theater and actively participates in local events.
Honestly, hearing him say that just killed me! It was everything. He said he’s never been happier, and it’s because staying connected to where he came from – his neighborhood, his people – it means everything to him. And it’s not like he’s grown apart from it all, no way! He’s actually closer to it now than ever, and it just… it gets me, you know? It really does.

As someone who travels quite a bit, I have to say, the English countryside is genuinely breathtaking. It’s a beauty that really stays with you – so different from what many of us are used to. What strikes me most is the charm of the villages and towns, and the lovely architecture. It feels like a return to a more relaxed, simpler way of living, and it’s incredibly refreshing.
“It’s just a nicer place,” Ellen explained. “The animals are well cared for, and everyone is friendly. We really love living here. We moved in November, which wasn’t the best timing, but I finally got to see snow! Portia brought her horses with her, I have chickens, and we even had sheep for a couple of weeks.”

Tyra Banks, the host of America’s Next Top Model, decided to move to Australia partly to focus on her ice cream company, SMiZE and Dream. She explained on Today with Jenna & Friends that her business had been supplying ice cream to places like airlines and cruise ships, and she was frequently traveling to Australia where a large facility was producing her recipes. She grew to love the country with each visit.
Beyond enjoying her time there, Banks recognized Australia as a promising market for her brand. She pointed out that Australia, along with America and New Zealand, are the countries that consume the most ice cream.
Ultimately, the supermodel relocated to Australia with her son, York (whose father is her ex, Erik Asla), and her boyfriend, Louis Bélanger-Martin, expressing that Australia has been a wonderful experience for her and her family.

Eva Longoria, known for her role on Desperate Housewives, has moved from Los Angeles and now divides her time between Mexico and Spain with her husband, José Bastón, and their son, Santiago. She explained to Marie Claire that while she spent her adult life in LA, the city had changed, and the pandemic accelerated her decision to leave. She cited issues like homelessness and taxes, but emphasized she doesn’t want to criticize California, she simply feels this chapter of her life is over.
Longoria clarified that her move wasn’t directly related to politics, despite happening after the presidential election. She explained on The View: Behind the Table podcast that work opportunities—including filming Land of Women in Spain and Searching for Mexico in Mexico—led to her spending extended periods abroad, and she now prefers living there. She feels fortunate to have this option, acknowledging that many Americans aren’t as lucky.
Despite the move, Longoria remains active in her career, with recent projects including appearances in Only Murders in the Building and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip.

Singer Christina Milian and her family have officially made Paris their home. Married to French singer Matt Pokora for over seven years, the couple previously spent six months of each year commuting between the U.S. and France. The family seems to be thriving in their new life. Milian shared with TopMob that her kids are happy and fluent in French, and she enjoys a healthy balance of an active daytime lifestyle with work she does ahead of schedule at night. She describes life in Paris as ‘magnifique’.

Lindsay Lohan is frustrated by ongoing speculation about why she left Los Angeles and decided to clarify the situation, reflecting on her busy career and social life in the early 2000s. In a March 2024 interview with Bustle, she explained that she felt her work was often overshadowed by the constant attention of the paparazzi, which she found irritating. She wished the focus had remained on her career and felt the media frenzy took on a life of its own, ultimately prompting her desire to step away. This was a major reason she chose to move overseas, first to London and then to Dubai, where she also started opening beach clubs in Greece, seeking a life beyond the spotlight.
I used to seriously worry – what if I never found love? It felt like such a huge question mark hanging over me. But honestly, taking time to just focus on me was the key. Once I did that, everything just… opened up. I started getting the opportunities I actually wanted, the things I could finally say ‘yes’ to without hesitation! And it happened! I found Bader Shammas, and we got married in 2022. Now we have our amazing little boy, Luai! We’re living in Dubai, which is incredible, but I’m still working on movies – I’ve been in things like Our Little Secret, Irish Wish, and even Freakier Friday! It’s the best of both worlds, really.

Josh decided to leave Hollywood after some careful thought. He explained to People magazine in July 2024 that Hollywood isn’t just a location, but a whole way of life. He wanted to avoid being surrounded by people constantly focused on the film industry, fearing it would limit his perspective. He longed for a life filled with diverse experiences and personal growth, calling that ‘the spice of life.’
So, Josh, along with his wife Tamsin Egerton and their four children, moved to the countryside of Hampshire, England. He told The Guardian in July 2024 that while life with four kids is busy, it feels simpler and allows him to focus on what truly matters. Despite the move, Josh has continued to act, appearing in films like Verity, Fight or Flight, and Trap.

If you don’t follow Jesse on social media, you might be surprised to learn he no longer lives in Los Angeles. In a February 2025 interview with CBS News Sunday Morning, the A Real Pain star revealed he’s lived in Indiana for the past ten years, finding it a more comfortable and stable environment. Despite being an Oscar nominee, Jesse lives a fairly ordinary life with his wife, Anna Strout, and son, Banner. He explained that he avoids social media and doesn’t spend much time networking within the entertainment industry. With a teacher for a wife and a son who isn’t even a big movie fan, Jesse feels removed from the constant pressures of assessing his status in Hollywood.

She said she realized she could change things and focus on getting herself better so she could then help other people, and it was like she finally understood everything. She feels like she has to share how much she’s changed, how peaceful and passionate she is now. It’s not just a job for her, it’s… it’s truly what she’s meant to do, you know? Her real purpose. It’s so inspiring!

The actress best known for playing Wilma Flintstone shared that she relocated to Ireland in January 2025 with her son, Clay, and is working to become an Irish citizen because of her family’s heritage. While she mentioned current political events as a factor in her decision to move, she hasn’t ruled out the possibility of returning to her home country someday.
In a TikTok video, she shared that she misses her children, friends, and her life back home. She’s working on building a new life in her current location and says her family will think about returning to the United States when it’s safe and everyone there has equal rights.

In a June 2024 Instagram post, Evangeline shared how happy and at peace she feels while pursuing her dreams. She expressed gratitude for her good fortune, explaining that while choosing a path less traveled – one that doesn’t prioritize money or recognition – can be daunting, it ultimately leads to a deeper sense of purpose and satisfaction.
However, she’s not ruling out a return to Hollywood completely, saying, “I could see myself going back someday, but right now, I’m happy where I am.”

Ian, who has two children with his wife Nikki Reed, took a break from acting about four years ago to focus on raising his family and developing his businesses. He was also working to release two documentaries: Kiss the Ground (2020) and its sequel, Common Ground. Both films highlight the importance of regenerative farming practices, as he told TopMob News in November 2023.
Looking ahead, the actor said he envisions himself as a rancher, focused on creating lasting brands – like his bourbon and health company – and using sustainable farming methods that prioritize healthy soil. He explained this is his long-term goal and the reason he’s so passionate about these things, stating it’s simply a part of who he is and who he’s becoming.

In a February 2021 episode of her podcast, Empty Inside, former iCarly star Jennette McCurdy shared with guest Anna Faris that she had stopped acting a few years prior. She’s now pursuing writing and directing, alongside hosting the podcast.
Jennette recently shared that she regrets many of the acting roles she took earlier in her career, detailing these feelings in her 2022 memoir, I’m Glad My Mom Died. She explained that she often feels dissatisfied with her work, describing the roles as cheesy and embarrassing. Having started on shows at age 13 and continuing until 21, she was already self-conscious about her work by age 15, feeling it wasn’t something her friends were impressed by.
She hasn’t ruled out returning to acting completely. In an October 2022 interview with TopMob News, she explained that writing her book helped her consider acting in a new light, free from past pressures. She feels the only way she might consider it again would be if she wrote a role specifically for herself.

It seemed like a pretty easy decision. The chance to marry Prince Harry, devote ourselves to meaningful charitable work, and even wear the Queen’s tiaras would make leaving Hollywood totally worthwhile.
Like Grace Kelly before her, Meghan Markle transitioned from a successful acting career – notably her role in the TV show Suits – to a life within the British Royal Family. After stepping back from their senior royal duties and moving to Montecito, California, Meghan is now returning to professional life. This includes a production deal with Netflix, where she’s released the docuseries Harry & Meghan and is preparing a lifestyle show called With Love, Meghan for 2025. She has also ventured into podcasting and launched her own brand, As Ever.

After starring in over 40 films since she began her career with 1994’s The Mask, the actress really needed a rest when she finished filming Annie in 2014.
She told Gwyneth Paltrow that she realized she wanted a different lifestyle. After years of intense work and filmmaking, she felt burned out. She explained that making a movie is incredibly demanding – it requires long hours and complete dedication, leaving no room for personal life.
Cameron Diaz had many interests she wanted to pursue, including writing – she followed up her successful book, The Body Book, with The Longevity Book – and starting a family with her husband, Benji Madden. While she told InStyle in 2019 that she didn’t miss acting and was focused on wellness, it seemed she might be open to returning for at least one more project.
Jamie Foxx explained to TopMob News how they convinced Cameron Diaz to star in the 2025 Netflix movie Back in Action. He said they practically pleaded with her, getting down on their knees to ask her to do it. “We love her and have been waiting for her to return – this is going to be amazing,” he shared.

The actor stated firmly that he wouldn’t return to the show after completing his five years on Empire. When Extra asked Terrence Howard about his plans before the sixth and final season aired in 2019, he said, “I’m finished with acting. I’m done with pretending.”
Despite taking on a few roles here and there, the Academy Award nominee announced his intention to retire from acting again in 2022 while promoting his Peacock series, The Best Man: The Final Chapters. He explained to Entertainment Tonight that he felt he’d given his all as an actor and was now happy to see new performers emerge, not wanting to simply rehash his past work.
Even with those previous concerns, Howard has continued to act, appearing in shows like Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist and the Netflix movie Shirley. He also has several more projects planned for the future.

After his character, King Joffrey, died on the show in 2014, the 21-year-old actor told EW he was leaving acting. He explained that he’d been working since he was 8 years old and simply wasn’t enjoying it as much anymore.
Jack isn’t a child star anymore, and some of the initial excitement has faded. He explained that now that acting could become a career, it feels different. Before, it was just a fun hobby he shared with friends during the summer. He still likes acting, but turning it into work changes things. It’s not that he dislikes it, he simply doesn’t want it to be his profession.
I was so thrilled when Jack returned to acting after a six-year hiatus! He jumped right back in with the BBC series Out of Her Mind in 2020, and I’ve been following his work ever since. It’s been amazing to see him in films like Rebecca’s Boyfriend and In the Land of Saints and Sinners, plus TV shows like Safe Harbor and The Famous Five. He really is a versatile actor!

After landing the role in a virtual reading of Fast Times at Ridgemont High in September 2020, Jennifer Aniston married actor Kevin Kline in 1989. Despite not appearing in a live-action movie since 1997 – he even turned down a small role in the 2016 Ghostbusters remake – Rick remains a beloved figure, as shown by the strong reaction to news of an assault he experienced while walking in New York City in 2020. Fortunately, fans will soon see him return to the screen alongside Josh Gad in the upcoming Disney reboot, Shrunk.

After marrying fashion designer Adam Kimmel in 2010, actress Drew Barrymore suggested she was considering stepping back from acting. She told Vogue that most acting roles require a lot of intimate scenes, and she wasn’t comfortable with that. While she felt her relationship was strong enough to handle potentially difficult roles, she believed any such role needed to be truly exceptional to be worth it.
After her son, Martin, joined his sister, Louisanna, in 2014, she firmly decided to step away from acting. She told Us Weekly in 2016 that she was happy being a mom and focusing on family. She explained she now supports her husband, Jimmy Kimmel, with his work and enjoys painting as a hobby. Ultimately, she felt her children were her main priority, which led to her decision to stop acting.

Oh my god, she was Ally McBeal, you guys! And then, like, she completely slayed in Nip/Tuck. Seriously, I was obsessed! Then Arrested Development? Perfection. But it was Scandal… that’s when I think she finally decided she wanted to try something different, you know? It was like she was ready for a new challenge!
Turning 45, I started thinking about trying something completely new and challenging,” she shared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2018. “I had a good idea of what my acting career would look like for the next decade or two, so I decided to leave acting and start my own business instead.
She was almost finished with her consumer art company, General Public – she just needed to complete one final piece.
I spoke with Mitch Hurwitz, the creator of Arrested Development, and told him I was done with acting, so I wouldn’t be in a potential season five. He was very understanding and supportive, and we had a good talk. Surprisingly, he ended up writing me into five episodes anyway.

It’s understandable why, after winning three Oscars, an actor might consider what else there is to achieve. Following his sixth Academy Award nomination for his 2017 film, Phantom Thread, the actor announced through his representative that he was retiring from acting. He expressed deep gratitude to those he’d worked with and his audiences over the years, and stated that this was a personal decision, with no further comments to be made.
Just as Daniel Day-Lewis had announced his retirement from acting, a new project drew him back in. In October 2024, Focus Features revealed he would star in Anemone, a film he co-wrote with his son, Ronan Day-Lewis, who will also be directing.

After finding fame on Good Luck Charlie, she decided to focus on her education in 2018. She went on to earn both a master’s degree and a PhD from MIT, and later attended Harvard Law School.
