It’s been 15 years since “A” began tormenting Aria, Hanna, Spencer, Emily, and Ali in June, which is hard to believe. Despite the questionable choices these teen characters made, Pretty Little Liars stands as one of the top-tier streaming teen dramas. The series even had a reboot on Max that ran for two seasons before getting canceled. Now, the cast and creator are expressing their thoughts about a reunion, and I’m particularly interested in Troian Bellisario’s ideas.
For seven seasons, the television series titled “PLL” aired on ABC Family/Freeform, with a brief spinoff called “Ravenswood” appearing during its run. After “PLL” concluded, another spinoff named “Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists” followed, but this too was short-lived. In this subsequent series, Sasha Pieterse and Janel Parrish reappeared as their characters Alison DiLaurentis and Mona Vanderwaal, leaving viewers yearning for additional stories.
Currently, the actress who portrayed Spencer Hastings, Bellisario, has proposed an intriguing plan for reintroducing the original cast in a new project. She explained to The Hollywood Reporter that the current moment presents an ideal opportunity for this revival because:
Instead of another season, perhaps a movie would be more fitting since I believe the story might not hold up as well over multiple episodes. However, it’d be fantastic to catch up with these characters we’ve grown fond of. They were part of our lives for seven years and then disappeared for another seven. Therefore, it seems like the ideal moment to find out where they ended up.
As a dedicated movie enthusiast, I’d much prefer a standalone film over another season. This way, the talented cast can explore other roles without being tethered for another nine months or so. Yet, such a film would also provide fans with a satisfying resolution, allowing us to catch up on where our beloved characters are now, following their escape from A and A.D.’s grip.
It’s worth noting that Bellisario isn’t the only one brainstorming ideas. In fact, members of the Pretty Little Liars cast, including its creator I. Marlene King, recently spoke with THR to celebrate PLL’s anniversary. King revealed that they often discuss the possibility of a reunion, and have even thought about making a movie or a series of 10 episodes.
Shay Mitchell, who played Emily Fields, hinted that there could be a reunion where they all come back together for some exciting adventures, similar to how Sex and the City returned with And Just Like That… I too believe this would provide an interesting perspective on what the characters are currently experiencing in a new light.

Currently, Ashley Benson is brainstorming a new storyline for her character Hanna Marin, implying that Hanna might eventually reveal herself as “A” in the series “Pretty Little Liars.” This twist could add an exciting layer to the show, especially since there were rumors that Lucy Hale’s Aria might be the villain. Regarding the tone of the plot, Tyler Blackburn, who played Caleb Rivers, suggests a PG-13 rating, expressing his belief that the series could become even more captivating if it delved into darker, more intense themes, making it all the more intriguing.
As an enthusiastic Day 1 fan of PLL (Pretty Little Liars), I can’t wait for the show to make a comeback, be it with a darker or lighter tone, a movie format, or more seasons. At present, we have to content ourselves with re-watching the original series using a Max subscription.
