Prime is About to Lose Apple’s Hit Sci-Fi Series (Despite its Chart Success)

Streaming services are realizing that to attract more viewers to their original content, they need to act more like traditional TV. Top platforms like Prime Video, Netflix, HBO Max, and Disney+ are now making short-term deals to license their shows to competitors, reaching wider audiences. A recent example is a partnership between Apple and Prime Video, where a popular Apple show became available on Prime – but this arrangement won’t last forever.

Apple’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is in its second season, and a smart decision to offer the first season to Amazon Prime subscribers has quickly proven successful. The Godzilla spin-off is already a hit on Prime, currently ranking in the top 5 shows (according to FlixPatrol). However, Prime members only have until the end of the month – just 10 days – to watch all 10 episodes, meaning you have about a day per episode to catch up. It’s definitely doable!

Why You Need To Watch Monarch: Legacy of Monsters

You absolutely shouldn’t miss Season 1 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters before it leaves Prime Video, especially if you don’t have Apple TV+. It’s a unique blend of high-quality storytelling and big-budget monster action, and the thoughtful approach really makes the story even better. While the other Monsterverse movies are getting increasingly over-the-top, Monarch is more grounded and focused. However, it doesn’t skimp on production value or talented actors. The show really explores how these events affect people – something the movies don’t always do – and any chance to see Wyatt and Kurt Russell together is a treat.

The series Monarch jumps between the 1950s and present day (2015), revealing how the Monarch organization began while also presenting a current mystery. Wyatt and Kurt Russell both play Colonel Lee Shaw – one as a young man, the other as his older self – and their performances are much more convincing than any digital age-reduction effects could be. They’re a great duo to handle the show’s complex science fiction elements and ground them in relatable human stories. While the monsters are exciting, it’s the focus on how events affect people that really elevates the series.

The first season of this show is surprisingly underrated on Rotten Tomatoes, scoring only 79% – which isn’t bad, but it truly deserves a score in the 90s. It’s exceptional science fiction, with strong acting and visual effects that look like they belong on the big screen. The Titans feel genuinely impactful because of this. If you’re a fan of the Monsterverse, you absolutely need to watch it, and anyone who enjoys sci-fi television should give it a try on Prime Video if you have access.
