Prime Video has added nine new actors to the cast of its hit mystery series, starring Nicole Kidman, as Season 2 production gets underway.
David Arquette (known from Scream), Jodi Balfour (For All Mankind), William Zabka (Cobra Kai), Stella Baker (The Republic of Sarah), Kim Dickens (Deadwood), Troy Garity (Barbershop), Jerod Haynes (The Greatest), Michael “Killer Mike” Render (The Lowdown), and Holland Taylor (The Morning Show) will appear in Season 2 of Scarpetta. Their roles haven’t been revealed yet, but they will be recurring throughout the season.
Joining series regulars Nicole Kidman (as Dr. Kay Scarpetta), Jamie Lee Curtis (as Dorothy Farinelli), Bobby Cannavale (as Detective Pete Marino), and Simon Baker (as FBI profiler Benton Wesley) are nine new actors.
Ariana DeBose plays Lucy Farinelli Watson, Kay’s niece who is skilled with technology. Rosy McEwen, Amanda Righetti, Jake Cannavale, and Hunter Parrish play the younger versions of Nicole Kidman, Jamie Lee Curtis, Joe Cannavale, and Chris Baker’s characters.
Scarpetta Is Prime Video’s Newest Hit With Subscribers
The television series Scarpetta was created and written by Liz Sarnoff. It’s a crime drama adapted from the popular Kay Scarpetta novels by Patricia Cornwell. The book series began in 1990 with Postmortem, and has continued with 28 more novels, the latest of which, Sharp Force, was published in 2025.
The eight-episode first season of the show premiered all at once on Prime Video on March 11, 2026, and quickly became popular. By May 8th, FlixPatrol showed it at number 5 on Prime Video’s list of the most-watched TV shows in the U.S. Amazon announced that 34 million people watched the first season within its first 28 days on the platform.
Despite not always receiving positive feedback, Scarpetta has remained popular. The first season received a generally unfavorable rating on Rotten Tomatoes, earning a critics’ score of 57% based on 67 reviews, and an even lower audience score of 43%.
Despite mixed reviews, Scarpetta will return for a second season on Prime Video because it attracted a large audience. Filming for the new season started last month in Nashville. The series is a collaboration between Amazon MGM Studios, Blumhouse Television, and production companies Blossom Films, Comet Pictures, and P&S Projects.
Nicole Kidman Is Staying Busy
Since 2017, Nicole Kidman has been a regular face on television. She first gained attention for her role in the HBO series Big Little Lies, returning for a second season in 2019. She then led the Hulu drama Nine Perfect Strangers, which has aired two seasons so far (in 2021 and 2025). More recently, she appeared in the 2024 miniseries Expats and The Perfect Couple, and is a main cast member on the Paramount+ spy thriller Lioness.
I’m still such a fan of Nicole Kidman, and it’s clear she still brings audiences to the theaters! Her recent film, Babygirl, was a huge success this year – it made $64 million even though it only cost $20 million to make! And I’m really excited for her next project, a sequel that’s going to reunite her with Sandra Bullock. Warner Bros. is releasing it in September, and I already have it marked on my calendar!
Scarpetta is available to stream on Prime Video.
