Prime Video’s New #1 Movie Proves Why Disney Should Hurry Up With Pirates of the Caribbean 6

Prime Video’s new film, The Bluff, has quickly become a hit around the world. Directed by Frank E. Flowers and produced by the Russo Brothers (known for their work on the Marvel Cinematic Universe), the movie is a gritty, R-rated look at piracy in the Cayman Islands during the 1800s. The story follows Ercell “Bloody Mary” Bodden (Priyanka Chopra Jonas), a former pirate trying to live a peaceful life, but her past catches up to her when her old teacher, Captain Connor (Karl Urban), shows up looking for trouble. The Bluff combines the suspense of a home invasion thriller with classic pirate themes, and audiences are responding to its focus on strong characters, realistic action, and historical detail.

The quick success of The Bluff highlights how much audiences miss the Pirates of the Caribbean series, which has been on hold for a while. When Disney released The Curse of the Black Pearl in 2003, it turned a potentially risky theme park ride into a huge blockbuster, earning billions and changing the kinds of movies Hollywood made. For over ten years, the adventures of Jack Sparrow, played by Johnny Depp, were a global hit and heavily influenced pop culture. However, surprisingly, no other studio managed to create a similar, long-lasting success with pirate-themed movies. Even more unexpectedly, Disney let the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise lose momentum after 2017’s Dead Men Tell No Tales. Although there’s been talk of a new movie or a fresh start for the series, it hasn’t moved forward, and now other studios are proving that pirate stories can still be popular and profitable.

Now It’s the Best Time for Disney to Make Pirates of the Caribbean 6

The sixth Pirates of the Caribbean movie has been in the works for a long time, with producer Jerry Bruckheimer often sharing updates on different script ideas. Currently, a fresh start is being developed by Craig Mazin and longtime writer Ted Elliott. There’s also still talk of a potential spinoff film starring a female lead, previously linked to Margot Robbie. Rumors have also suggested Austin Butler could take over as the new face of the franchise, perhaps following in the footsteps of Jack Sparrow. All of this shows Disney wants to bring the series back, but fans who have been waiting almost ten years are getting frustrated by the constant changes and lack of a confirmed start date.

Disney should make another Pirates of the Caribbean movie as a key part of its strategy. Pirate adventures are relatively rare in today’s films, unlike superhero and sci-fi stories which are everywhere. The unique look and feel of naval battles and supernatural sea stories are hard to find elsewhere. Disney already has a great starting point with well-known characters, locations, and music to build a marketing campaign around. Recent success with films like The Bluff shows audiences will embrace new pirate stories, even without a famous character like Jack Sparrow, as long as the story itself is compelling.

You can now watch The Bluff on Prime Video, and all of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies are available on Disney+.
