Everyone is eagerly awaiting Henry Cavill’s upcoming Warhammer 40,000 series. The show is now in production after a long process of talks between Games Workshop, the creators of the Warhammer game, and Amazon MGM Studios.
The upcoming show aims to capture the same atmosphere as the original game, which is set far in the future and features humans fighting both alien invaders and supernatural beings. The game itself, similar to other miniature wargames, involves players recreating battles with toy figures and vehicles. These battles take place on a tabletop battlefield – complete with terrain like buildings, forests, and hills – and outcomes are determined using calculations and dice rolls. There are also two video game adaptations available on PlayStation, Windows, and Xbox, played from a third-person perspective.
Amazon Almost Lost the Rights, But ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Is Now Moving Forward

Game Works
A television series based on the Warhammer 40,000 universe was initially announced in December 2022, but news went quiet for a while. Then, in July 2024, Games Workshop revealed that Amazon had until the end of the year to finalize the show’s creative direction, or the project could move to a different streaming service or network. Fortunately, things worked out and the deal remained with Amazon.
Later in the year, Cavill shared on Instagram that he, Games Workshop, and Amazon had all come to an agreement about the show’s creative vision. He posted a photo of himself at The Little Shop in New Jersey – where he first bought Warhammer models – and assured fans that production would begin shortly.
The project is currently in very early development. Henry Cavill shared in mid-2025 that he and a writing team are planning the first part of the game’s world. Because of all the work involved – including special effects and filming on location for the dark and gritty setting – it’s unlikely the show will be released in 2026. A release in 2027 or 2028 seems more realistic.
Who Will Be in ‘Warhammer 40,000’?

Currently, Henry Cavill is the only actor officially confirmed for the show. Because this project is something he’s incredibly enthusiastic about – many fans affectionately call him “The Cavillrine” – he’s dedicated to seeing it through, and will do whatever it takes to make it happen. He’s shared that he’s been a fan of Warhammer since childhood.
I’ve been a lifelong fan of Warhammer and have always imagined seeing it brought to life on screen. After over two decades working in the entertainment industry, I now believe I have the expertise to make a Warhammer Cinematic Universe a reality.
Is Henry Cavill the right choice for such a large project? While critics haven’t loved most of his films, he’s proven successful on television, which is encouraging. However, Cavill has a pattern of leaving shows and franchises before they conclude – fans grew to love him as both Superman and Geralt of Rivia, only for him to depart. The big question is whether he’ll stay committed through the entirety of this new franchise.
Okay, let’s talk casting for this upcoming series. While Henry Cavill’s involvement is pretty much set, there was a buzz about Tom Cruise potentially joining in 2025, but honestly, I wouldn’t hold your breath. The guy’s a movie star through and through and doesn’t often do TV, plus he likes to have a lot of say in his projects. The really exciting rumor, though, is Gary Oldman as Malacador the Sigilite! Apparently, he and his sons are huge Warhammer fans – I saw pictures of them at Warhammer World – and that’s got everyone thinking it could actually happen. Fingers crossed, because that would be amazing!
What Will the Story of ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Be?

Games Workshop
Henry Cavill and Amazon hope to build Warhammer into a large entertainment franchise, starting with a new TV series that will introduce viewers to its grim and futuristic setting. While the exact storyline for the show hasn’t been revealed, the success of the Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 video game – which has been well-received by critics and played by over six million people – suggests the series could capitalize on existing fan interest.
The series could begin by focusing on the well-known Space Marines and other forces loyal to the Emperor of Mankind. The Custodes, incredibly powerful genetically-engineered warriors of both genders, will likely play a significant role. Recently, in early 2024, Games Workshop introduced several new female warriors that fans have enjoyed.
The popular Prime Video anthology series Secret Level, which already includes an episode based on Warhammer 40,000, could connect to the upcoming TV show. This episode, titled “Warhammer 40,000: And They Shall Know No Fear,” received positive reviews from both fans and critics and was even nominated for an Emmy award for its sound editing. The story follows Sergeant Metaurus and a team of Space Marines, including a fearless recruit named Titus, as they embark on a mission to recover a relic from a faraway planet.

Online fans are guessing when the story takes place, with popular theories pointing to either the Indomitus Era or the Horus Heresy. There’s also a lot of speculation that the show will be based on Dan Abnett’s ‘Eisenhorn’ books, potentially as a way to lower production costs. These books focus on an Inquisitor and tell more character-driven stories, offering a change of pace from the large-scale battles involving Space Marines.
Author Dan Abnett recently shared on Facebook that he’s pausing work on certain books in the series due to circumstances outside of his influence. This has led to speculation that the books and the Amazon show might exist within the same fictional universe, and that Abnett is temporarily stopping to ensure the storylines don’t conflict with each other.
The release date of Pandaemonium isn’t up to me. Due to a confidential agreement, the release of Bequin 3, along with other projects, is currently delayed. It will be released eventually, and I’m excited to share it with you. In the meantime, please be patient and enjoy the other things I’m working on. Sending peace, love, and space battles your way!
To really get the most out of the new series, it’s a good idea to read the source books. However, Warhammer 40,000 also looks like a show that anyone can enjoy, especially with all the action and battles.
