Microsoft recently shared updates about Project Helix, the next generation Xbox currently in development. It sounds like there’s a lot to look forward to!
Developers will receive early test versions of the console next year, according to Jason Ronald, Xbox’s new vice president, who announced the news at GDC 2026 and shared a few details about the upcoming console. While this is exciting, it means we’ll have to wait a while before seeing the new Xbox in action, but it could be worth the wait.
Project Helix uses a specially designed AMD chip and was created alongside the newest versions of DirectX and FSR technologies, paving the way for future advancements. It dramatically improves ray tracing performance – about ten times better – and incorporates artificial intelligence directly into the graphics processing. This leads to significant improvements in efficiency, scalability, and visual quality, ultimately creating more realistic, immersive, and detailed gaming experiences.
Good news for PC gamers! In April, Windows 11 will get a new “Xbox mode” originally found on the ROG Ally X. This feature brings the familiar Xbox interface to your PC, including full controller support, making it easier to switch between work and gaming. It’s a particularly useful addition for those already using Xbox services, but could be helpful for anyone who enjoys gaming on a PC.
The Xbox, a classic console, could be on the verge of a comeback. We’re excited to see it recover and become a major player in gaming again.
