Developer Artdink is bringing back two unusual and beloved PlayStation 1 games, Aquanaut’s Holiday and Tail of the Sun, for modern systems as part of their new GAME LOG preservation initiative.
Both games will now be released on Nintendo Switch and PC, even though Sony originally published them worldwide.
Tail of the Sun comes out in Japan on December 16th, and Aquanaut’s Holiday will be released sometime in early 2026.
Kazutoshi Iida directed both games and later became known for creating Doshin the Giant for Nintendo.
Here’s an overview of the ARTDINK GAME LOG project, via Steam:
ARTDINK GAME LOG is a project dedicated to bringing classic Artdink games to modern consoles and PCs. It’s both a celebration of the company’s history and a way to let fans relive beloved titles. Longtime players can enjoy these games with updated technology, and new players can experience them for the first time.
Considering how closely tied these games are to PlayStation, it’s disappointing they aren’t included as emulated titles on the PS5. However, the developers likely think these classic games now have a bigger audience on other platforms.
If you haven’t played it before, Tail of the Sun is a fun, open-world game where you take on the role of a caveman. It originally came out in 1996.
Aquanaut’s Holiday, released in 1995, was a game where players simulated deep-sea diving. It was popular enough to get several sequels published by Sony, with the latest version appearing on the PlayStation 3.
