PS3 RPG Series Returns With Its First New Game in 11 Years

The popular RPG series, originally a PlayStation 3 exclusive and boasting the most games on that console, is back with a brand new installment after 11 years. This time, it’s not just coming to the PlayStation 5, but also to PS4, Nintendo Switch, and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Currently, there are no plans to release the game on Xbox or PC.

I’m so excited! Compile Heart just announced that a new Neptunia game, Neptunia Unlimited, is coming out in Japan on August 27th! We haven’t heard anything about a release here in the West yet, but the other games eventually made it over, so I’m pretty hopeful it will happen. It’s been a while since the last main game, Megadimension Neptunia VII back in 2015, which was awesome because it came to PC, PS4, and Switch. Fingers crossed this one does too! Sadly, the previous games never hit Xbox, so I wouldn’t get my hopes up if I were an Xbox fan.

A Long-Awaited New Release

Compile Heart is approaching Neptunia Unlimited much like they have their past games, suggesting it will be a familiar experience for fans rather than a risky departure. While specific story details are still limited, the game will center around a group of Goddesses working to prevent a global catastrophe.

It’s been over ten years since a brand new Neptunia game, but the series hasn’t been completely quiet. There have been spin-off titles and re-releases to keep fans engaged. So, a new main game felt inevitable, it was just a question of timing. The wait has been lengthy, but fans are thrilled it’s finally over.

Okay, so if you’re like me and can’t wait for a possible western release, Neptunia Unlimited is coming out in Japan this summer and will cost around 8,580 yen. That means you’d have to import it, or set up a Japanese PlayStation Network or Nintendo account to grab it digitally. They’re also doing a limited edition for 19,800 yen, and it sounds awesome! It includes the game itself, a super cool art book, the soundtrack on CD, the season pass for extra content, a promotional card, and a special box with artwork by Tsunako. Seriously, that limited edition is tempting!

This announcement follows news that another beloved RPG series from the PlayStation 3 will be making a comeback around 2026. Fans of PS3 RPGs recently enjoyed a well-received remaster released last month.
