In a move that has left many gamers surprised, Sony has stripped certain features from PlayStation 4 consoles, which, in essence, seems to have diminished the PS4’s performance. This subtle alteration was carried out through a back-end update earlier this year, but it went largely unnoticed until now. Although Sony did disclose these changes on their official website, they failed to draw attention to the update itself. As a result, we are left guessing as to the reasons behind these modifications; all we know is that they have been implemented.
Hey there fellow gamers! So, back in March of ’25, Sony made a sneaky update for us PS4 and PS4 Pro players that didn’t even need a download – pretty cool, right? But Happy gaming!
Furthermore, it’s important to note that certain adjustments have been made to the activities section. As part of these modifications, the Comment, Like, and Share features have been eliminated in this latest upgrade.
It’s unclear why these changes occurred, but they might establish a new norm for future consoles like the PS5 and PS6, as well as beyond. This move also sets a precedent, meaning Sony may remove features whenever they deem necessary, even 12 years after a console’s release, such as in this instance. However, this specific change may have gone unnoticed due to its lack of significance, despite the fact that there are still millions of active PS4 users. Nevertheless, it’s concerning to see Sony making alterations to consoles so long after they were first released, unless these changes enhance the console’s performance – which is not the case here.
Currently, as of publication, Sony has remained silent regarding the issue. Since the change occurred several months ago, and considering they seemed reluctant to announce it initially, we don’t anticipate any new comments. However, if anything changes, we will promptly revise the story.
