As of today, December 4th, 2025, at 1pm, we initially thought that the newly released footage of The God Slayer meant the game was no longer included in Sony’s China Hero Project.
I was surprised to hear this game is also coming to the Xbox Series X|S. Usually, games from the China Hero Project start out as exclusives – you can only play them on one console for a limited time – so this is a bit different!
A recent example is Lost Soul Aside, which was released exclusively for PlayStation 5 and PC.
Pathea Games contacted us to let us know that The God Slayer is still planned as part of the China Hero Project.

We inquired about Sony’s involvement in the project, and a representative shared that they are providing help with game development, as well as handling marketing and publishing. You can find more details on Sony’s official website.
We inquired about whether the game would be released on consoles at different times, and what Sony receives for its financial backing and assistance, but the studio wasn’t able to provide an answer right now.
Okay, so good news for those of us following the China Hero Project – The God Slayer is still confirmed as part of it, even though it looks like it’s going to be released on pretty much every platform now. I was a little worried it might have been dropped, but it’s still happening!
The impressive action RPG, The God Slayer, for the PlayStation 5 was originally revealed as part of Sony’s China Hero Project.
However, the game’s recent announcement for PC and Xbox Series X|S platforms implies it’s no longer being developed exclusively with PlayStation’s support.
The game is still on track for PlayStation 5 and appears fantastic. It combines classic East Asian designs with steampunk elements, resulting in a really distinctive look.
Pathea Games, known for My Time at Portia, is creating this new game, and it’s much more ambitious than their previous work. They initially aimed to release it in 2027, so it’s still several years from being finished.
Here’s how the blurb introduces the game:
Explore a stunning steampunk city inspired by the East, ruled by powerful gods called Celestials. In this expansive open-world RPG, you play as an Elemancer—a master of elemental powers—who dares to defy these gods. Driven by a thirst for revenge, you’ll embark on a quest to overthrow them all and become known as the God Slayer.
The initial gameplay reveal is stunning, showcasing the main character, Cheng, as he moves through a bustling city and fights against enemies called Celestials.
Battles involve martial arts moves, but you also use elemental powers. For example, you can soak enemies with water, freeze them solid, and then finish them off with fire. The trailer suggests there are tons of different ways to combine these abilities.
Here’s what the summary says:
The elements – fire, water, earth, and steam – all react with each other in predictable ways: fire burns wood, water puts out fire, steam forms from heated water, and earth can block things. How you use these interactions in combat is your choice.
The way different elements combine in this game feels similar to Genshin Impact, but it goes much deeper than just the combat. Unlike Genshin Impact, this is a complete, single-player game you purchase upfront, rather than a free-to-play title with ongoing updates.
What really sets this apart is its steampunk style, hinted at in the trailer. You can see this in things like a massive mechanical enemy, airships, and lots of intricate clockwork technology.
Honestly, the world they’ve built is just awesome. It feels like something I’ve seen before, but with this amazing, fantastical twist. I’m really digging it!
