PS5 Fans Say Ghost of Yotei Plays Better, But Can’t Match Ghost of Tsushima’s Story or Hero

Last week, we asked Push Square readers in a public poll what they thought of Ghost of Yotei, and if they believed it was an improvement over the original Ghost of Tsushima.

Wow, we had almost 10,000 people vote in our poll – it’s seriously one of the biggest we’ve ever done! That makes the results even more fascinating, honestly. I can’t wait to see what everyone thought!

Opinions on Yotei and Tsushima are pretty split. Almost 45% of readers favor Tsushima, while just over 32% prefer Yotei. The remaining 23% are undecided.

However, the comparison becomes much more uneven when you look at gameplay and story as separate parts of each title.

Most players prefer Yotei’s gameplay. A large 82% say it’s better than the first game, Tsushima, with 23% feeling it’s improved in all aspects. Only a small 7% think the gameplay has gotten worse.

Opinions pretty much flip with regards to story, however, with Tsushima getting the most support.

Over half of readers (58%) preferred the story of Jin’s original adventure, and a significant portion (30% of that 58%) felt it was much better than the sequel’s. Only 9% of readers thought Yotei’s story was considerably better.

The two main characters, Atsu and Jin, faced off in a final vote, and Jin from Ghost of Tsushima ultimately won by a large margin.

The disgraced samurai was crowned the better main character by a whopping 71% of readers.

It’s interesting to consider how new Ghost of Yotei still is. We’re curious to see if people’s opinions evolve over time.
