To be honest, Jak & Daxter has never really been my thing, so I’m always a little shocked by how much PlayStation fans love it. It just doesn’t click with me, but I get that a lot of people are really into the series.
I actually enjoy The Precursor Legacy; it’s a solid platformer for the PS2. It also has a special quality – a smooth, open world that feels very Sony-like.
I think the sequels aren’t very good. While I don’t mind the vehicle sections in the third game, the second one feels unfinished, like it never received proper testing. Looking back, though, the trilogy did help Naughty Dog develop the skills they’d later use to create the Uncharted series.
It seems I’m one of the few who doesn’t feel this way, but nearly 500 of you have expressed wanting to see this pair return on the PS5.
Sony is reportedly looking into bringing back some of its older game franchises. Rumors suggest remakes of inFAMOUS are planned, and a recent poll showed that nearly 20% of fans would most like to see a return of Jak & Daxter.
Here are the five franchises that got the most votes:
- Jak & Daxter: 468 votes (17.17%)
- Sly Cooper: 340 votes (12.47%)
- Resistance: 317 votes (11.7%)
- Killzone: 309 votes (11.34%)
- MotorStorm: 227 votes (8.33%)
After the top five, votes decrease significantly, though Ape Escape, WipEout, and Gravity Rush still received a good amount of support.
Patapon didn’t receive much attention from fans, getting only 7 votes out of nearly 3,000. However, with a new game called Ratatan coming out this year – seen as a follow-up to Patapon – voters may have chosen to support that instead.
I was really surprised to see Hot Shots Golf so low on the list. It’s been a PlayStation favorite for years, and only received 43 votes. I feel bad for the developers, Clap-Hanz, seeing the game struggle like that.
These results make me question if we’ll ever see a new Jak & Daxter game. Naughty Dog once tried to reimagine the series with a more realistic style, similar to The Last of Us, but they decided not to move forward with it.
I don’t think fans are necessarily looking for a gritty or realistic version of this series. Most people probably want a classic 3D platformer experience, similar to The Precursor Legacy, which remains the most beloved game in the series.
It’s obvious fans are really excited about classic PlayStation games, and I’m hoping Sony brings some of those beloved series back.
Look, I’m all for fresh games, but Sony’s got so many amazing old franchises just collecting dust. It honestly feels like a waste when there are tons of fans – myself included – who would absolutely lose it if they brought some of those classics back to life on the PS5. It’s frustrating to see them just sit there!
