There’s no beating around the bush: the Switch 2 has enjoyed an outstanding launch.
Okay, so the new Nintendo console is absolutely crushing it! Seriously, it’s broken sales records in most places. Nintendo did a great job with the marketing, and thankfully, there were enough units available to meet the demand. It’s been such a hit in the first six months that they’ve actually had to increase how many they expect to sell this year – that’s how well it’s doing!
But in the UK, as of the end October, the PS5 still rules supreme.
Despite a 15% drop in year-over-year sales, likely caused by increased prices, the PlayStation 5 is still the best-selling console in Britain, outpacing the upcoming Switch 2, according to a report from The Game Business.
The PS5 is further ahead because it’s been on the market longer. It was released at the start of 2025, while Nintendo’s new console didn’t become available until June 5th.
The Switch 2 launched with a lot of hype, so it’s notable that the PS5 is still selling better.
Sony’s PlayStation saw a significant boost in sales during October, with a 36% increase making it the top-selling console for the month.
The platform is offering excellent Black Friday deals, and has already become the top choice in Spain. We anticipate even greater success for them throughout November.
It’s still uncertain if the Switch will maintain its popularity compared to the new Switch 2 during the holiday season. While Nintendo consistently does well in the UK, it’s historically been a more difficult market for them than others.
We believe Sony is more interested in attracting players to its own gaming network than worrying about what other companies are doing.
Wow, the console is almost at 100 million units sold! If the holidays go well, it might even reach that incredible number before GTA 6 comes out next year – that would be amazing!
