To be honest, I hadn’t heard of BeamNG.drive until today – it’s not a name that really stuck with me!

After watching the reaction to the racer’s PlayStation 5 trailer, I decided to look into it further.

This beloved physics game has been incredibly popular on PC for ten years, and bringing it to consoles is a fantastic accomplishment for the developers.

Based on the initial reaction, I think this new release will be a huge success for Sony and a major win for the platform.

What’s impressive is the underlying physics. Instead of relying on pre-programmed instructions, the system meticulously tracks each part of every vehicle up to 2,000 times per second. This allows it to constantly reassess and respond to every detail of how each car is behaving.

Each crash is unique – you’ll never experience the exact same collision twice. The game calculates everything instantly and with incredible detail, leading to incredibly realistic and spectacular crashes.

Honestly, you really need to watch the trailer – it shows you way more than I can explain. But I’ll say this: this game gets car crashes. It’s not just about fancy sports cars; you can wreck everything from buses to buggies, and the crashes are seriously detailed.

You can freely explore different open-world environments in the game’s sandbox mode, or if you prefer more direction, you can take on missions like time trials and police chases.

Porting BeamNG.drive to the PS5 has been incredibly challenging, as developer Thomas Fischer explains in a PS Blog post. He says it was a complex process for the team, requiring a huge amount of work to overcome numerous technical hurdles and adapt to the console’s specific design.

I believe all their effort will be worth it, as this game appears poised for significant success.
