Okay, so this is kinda crazy – a game that started as an Xbox exclusive just dropped on PS5, and PlayStation fans are loving it. Seriously, the user review score on the PlayStation Store is almost perfect. It’s been out on Xbox and PC for about a year now, but it feels like PS5 players are actually enjoying it more. I checked, and it’s got a 4.89 out of 5 on the PlayStation Store, while over on Xbox it’s sitting at a 4 out of 5. But, you gotta take these scores with a grain of salt, there’s more to the story than just the numbers.
The game South of Midnight, originally released on Xbox in 2025, recently came to PS5. While it didn’t perform as well commercially in 2026, it’s been well-received by players. It received positive reviews on Xbox and very positive reviews on Steam, and now PS5 users are also loving it. South of Midnight has been available on Xbox Game Pass since launch, which tends to lower review scores because the game is easily accessible to subscribers. Players buying the game on PS5, a year after its initial release, are generally more enthusiastic since they’ve paid full price. Currently, there are over 5,700 reviews on the Xbox Store, compared to 547 on the PlayStation Store. As more people review the game on PS5 – particularly those who purchase it on sale – the PlayStation Store score is likely to decrease.
2025 Action-Adventure Xbox Game
If you haven’t heard of it, South of Midnight first launched on PC and Xbox Series X on April 8, 2025. It became available on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 on March 31st. This is the first game from UK-based Compulsion Games since being acquired by Xbox. They previously created We Happy Few in 2018 and Contrast in 2013.
Currently, South of Midnight is available on the PlayStation Store for $40. It’s not included with PS Plus, so that’s the only way to get it on PS5. If you’re using a PS5 Pro and interested, the Xbox version of the game does offer enhancements for the console.
