The popular battle royale game PUBG, which helped launch the genre, will no longer be supported on PlayStation 4 starting November 13th.
After that update, the game will only be available on the PS5, but you won’t lose any of your saved data or progress.
So, if I’m planning on playing on PlayStation 5, the game’s gonna look a little less sharp than if I played it on Xbox Series X. Basically, the resolution will be lower.
PUBG Studios has announced performance targets for the game on different consoles. The standard PlayStation 5 will run at 1440p resolution with a frame rate of 60 frames per second, while the Xbox Series X will achieve 2160p at the same 60fps. The upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro is also expected to deliver a 2160p resolution at 60fps.
The details reveal that both the Xbox Series X and the upcoming PS5 Pro will adjust resolution dynamically during gameplay, likely with the PS5 Pro averaging a higher resolution. However, it’s surprising to see the standard PS5 consistently running at a noticeably lower resolution compared to the Xbox Series X.
Although the Xbox Series X is slightly more powerful on paper than the PlayStation 5, you won’t usually notice a difference when playing games – particularly when it comes to visual resolution, as is the case here.
Okay, so here’s a bummer for anyone upgrading to PS5: all those Trophies I worked so hard to get on my PS4? They’re gonna reset. Seriously, all of them. It’s kinda frustrating, but hopefully I can earn them all back on the new console!
A spokesperson explained that while we looked into letting players transfer trophies, Sony Interactive Entertainment confirmed it’s too technically challenging because of the amount of data involved. We appreciate your understanding.
PlayStation Plus members will get a special pack of free items, including Hunter’s Chests, Keys, and Contraband Coupons. This bundle also includes the Pixel Art Parachute, which was a launch bonus for PUBG on PlayStation 4.
To celebrate the launch of version 38.2, which will also be released for PlayStation 5, we’re partnering with Porsche. You can find details about this collaboration and the full list of updates in the latest game patch notes here.
