Sony has revealed it’s yet to decide on a release date or price for the next-gen and eventual PS6.
I was listening to the recent earnings call, and Sony’s CEO, Hiroki Totoki, addressed a question I’ve been wondering about – whether rising component costs will affect the price of the PlayStation. He shared some news during the Q&A, so we’ll have to see what that means for us gamers!
So, I was reading what Sony’s Totoki said, and basically, they haven’t figured out when the new PlayStation will come out, or how much it’s going to cost yet. They’re saying they’re going to watch things carefully and see how the market is doing before making any decisions. Sounds like they’re playing it safe, which I guess is smart!
Sony anticipates that memory prices will stay elevated in 2027 because of an expected shortage. They’re carefully considering how to approach this, including exploring new sales strategies for the PlayStation 6, as reported by VGC.
Totoki explained that they plan to explore different scenarios and business approaches to determine the most effective solution and overall strategy.
According to reports from various sources, Sony is aiming to release the PlayStation 6 in 2027, alongside a new handheld gaming device. Meanwhile, Microsoft’s next Xbox console, currently known as Project Helix, is expected to launch next year.
As a PlayStation fan, I’ve been keeping an eye on when we might see a PS6. It seems like most of us aren’t quite ready for a new console yet! A recent poll on Push Square with over 4,000 votes showed that most PS5 owners think 2028 or 2029 would be a better time for the PS6 to launch. Only a small percentage – just 11% of Push Square readers – think 2027 (the year Sony’s reportedly aiming for) is the right time.
There’s been speculation about the price of the PS6, with some worrying it could cost $1,000. However, reliable sources like hardware leaker KeplerL2 suggest it might be more affordable, though likely around the same price as a PS5 Pro is currently.
This is the information Sony has publicly shared about the PS6. Behind the scenes, they’re already planning its launch with a clear timeline and potential price points. While those details aren’t final, Sony has a solid understanding of how the PS6’s release will unfold.
