A recent report offers new information about the release of the PlayStation 6 and hints at what gamers can anticipate from PS6 titles. Despite the PS5 still being relatively new, the report claims rumors of a delay – potentially until 2029 – are inaccurate. The report’s estimated release date suggests the console is on track for an earlier launch.
According to Moore’s Law Is Dead, a reliable source known for accurately leaking information about the PS5 before its release, Sony is planning to launch the PS6 in late 2027. The source suggests that even if there are any setbacks, the console won’t be delayed past early 2028. This timeline aligns with expectations that Microsoft’s next Xbox, codenamed Project Helix, will be available during the 2027 holiday season.

Along with the updated release date for the PS6, sources say Sony wants the new console to easily handle games in 4K resolution at a smooth 120 frames per second. This was a goal for the PS5 that wasn’t fully achieved. Experts at MLID also predict the PS6 will feature improved ray tracing technology.
The PlayStation 5 isn’t the most powerful console when it comes to processing power, which has always been a challenge for consoles in general. This is why complex strategy games and huge open-world games sometimes run with performance issues on the PS5. However, reports suggest Sony is planning a significant upgrade with the PS6, aiming for a CPU that’s three to four times more powerful than the one in the PS5.
Finally, the report discusses the PlayStation 6’s ray tracing technology, predicting it will be three to six times faster than the PlayStation 5 Pro, and as much as twelve times faster than the original PlayStation 5.
The PlayStation 6’s development could be significantly impacted by current problems with supply chains and a shortage of essential components, particularly memory chips, leading many to believe its release might be delayed. However, a source claims Sony is working hard to secure the necessary parts. They point to the PS5’s launch in 2020 – which faced unprecedented supply chain issues – as evidence that Sony can navigate challenging circumstances. While the PS5 did eventually launch, it was very difficult to find for roughly two years because Sony couldn’t produce enough to meet demand.
