Indie horror specialist Puppet Combo returns to the scene after a hiatus, launching a brand-new terrifying title – this time, the chills are set against an urban backdrop. Renowned for their pixelated slasher games that skillfully mix dark humor with intense fear, it’s been three years since they released their indie hit Stay Out of the House. Now, Puppet Combo is making a comeback in a big way with their first game in years titled SkinFREAK.
Fans of classic PS1-style games have an exclusive opportunity through Puppet Combo’s Patreon: they can now experience the prologue for the upcoming driving horror simulator, titled SkinFREAK. Developed by Jordan King, who previously created Bloodwash under the studio name Black Eyed Priest Games, SkinFREAK is being promoted as a “return to form.
As a thrilled fan, I’m excited to share that roughly 30 to 45 minutes of gameplay for the upcoming horror masterpiece, SkinFREAK, is now available! This tantalizing sneak peek offers a glimpse into the chilling landscapes and a gripping narrative reminiscent of Saw. While we don’t have an official release date yet beyond the “coming soon” message at the end of the prologue, it’s clear that SkinFREAK, announced by Puppet Combo on their YouTube channel, is destined to terrorize Steam once fully released.
Renowned for creating chilling horror games like “Power Drill Massacre”, “Nun Massacre”, and “Murder House”, as well as titles such as “Night at the Gates of Hell” and “Deadly Night”, Puppet Combo is a highly respected indie developer in the YouTube community. With his unique style, you can expect intense and nerve-wracking suspense under an unsettling PlayStation aesthetic. Though games have been published under the name Torture Star Video (the latest being “Sniper Killer”), the last game released by this one-man studio was “Stay Out of the House”.
On Patreon for $5, patrons receive monthly download access to prototypes, experiments, and new games. As of July 31st, the prologue for SkinFREAK has been officially announced and is available for play now, following a similar release pattern as Night Shift (2018), which eventually served as the initial chapter for Stay Out of the House (2022). For $10, you can pre-order to receive download keys for Puppet Combo’s next Steam release, in addition to access to all previous releases.
In a vintage survival horror setting, complete with inventory management, the game SkinFREAK evokes comparisons to Martin Scorsese’s 1976 film “Taxi Driver.” You find yourself behind the wheel as a serial killer roams free. Your mission is to safeguard your passengers, listen to their tales, and ponder in the rear-view mirror whether you’re transporting The Skinfreak straight to another victim.
In this game, you assume the role of Max, a cab driver who cruises the city streets at night seeking fares. Does it seem familiar to you? Think about a blend between “The Nightripper” and “Taxi Driver“, or perhaps a darker, murderous spin on the “Crazy Taxi” series. The protective steel of your vehicle offers limited solace as you venture into Skinfreak’s territory. Are you brave enough to start your night shift when there’s a killer on the loose?
