Random: This Publisher’s Promoting Its PS5 Lineup with Retro Box Art

Annapurna Interactive, the publisher behind several acclaimed games, is generating buzz for its upcoming PlayStation 5 titles with a clever marketing campaign. At a recent event connected to Summer Game Fest, they shared press kits designed to look like classic PlayStation game boxes – a nostalgic nod to gaming’s past.

YouTuber and former Nintendo employee Kit Ellis recently shared photos of some interesting game finds. They included a PlayStation 2 version of Silent Hill: Townfall, a budget-friendly “Greatest Hits” edition of Control Resonant for PS2, a PlayStation 1 copy of The Lost Wild, and a Nintendo 64 version of Demi and the Fractured Dream.

Kit didn’t reveal what the package contained, but based on my experience with press events, it’s likely standard materials like fact sheets and photos – not very exciting. Still, they’re the sort of things you might want to keep as a souvenir, right?

It’s not a new concept to create mock-ups of old-style box art, but I haven’t seen a large gaming company actually do it before.

Bravo, Annapurna Interactive – you guys are always so freakin’ cool!
