Randy Travis Gets Standing Ovation During Concert After Stroke

Randy Traviswill be embracing the support from his fans forever and after.

Over ten years after a severe stroke took away his ability to walk and talk, Randy recently earned a standing ovation from his fans while on his More Life Tour.

Randy Travis made a rare public appearance on April 2nd, appearing on stage in a wheelchair pushed by his wife, Mary Travis. The crowd enthusiastically cheered and chanted his name as he arrived.

The 66-year-old shared that the fans are what make performing and making appearances so meaningful, and that’s why he continues to do them.

Even though Randy can’t sing anymore, he’s been touring with his original band since 2025, and country artist James Dupré now performs his popular songs.

This tour, now scheduled to run through 2026, is Randy’s first big one since a health issue in 2013. He was hospitalized and initially thought to have heart problems, then suffered a stroke. He was later diagnosed with aphasia, which makes it difficult to understand and use language.

In his 2019 memoir, Forever and Ever, Amen: A Memoir of Music, Faith and Braving the Storms of Life, Randy shared the difficult and challenging experiences he went through.

He explained that while he could understand what Mary was saying, he couldn’t form a proper sentence to reply, according to People. This was incredibly frustrating, and he felt disconnected from his own body, as if he were trapped inside it.

Randy’s wife, Mary, shared in 2023 how his aphasia had affected him, telling Women’s World that it had significantly impacted his ability to speak and sing. She explained that people often mistakenly believe he’s aloof or unwilling to talk, but that isn’t the case.

She explained, “He simply isn’t able to.” She wanted people to know that Randy still fully understands what’s going on, he just has trouble expressing himself like he used to.

Even though a health condition made it difficult for him to perform, Randy never stopped making music. He recently released a new song called “Where That Came From” in 2024 – and he used AI technology to help create it. Randy, known for his hit “Diggin’ Up Bones,” has since regained his ability to walk.

Randy shared on Instagram that eleven years ago, he didn’t imagine he’d ever be involved in making music. He credits divine help and the encouragement of his family, friends, fellow musicians, and fans for allowing him to pursue his passion and create the music he loves.

He shared in 2024 that finally playing the song for his family was a very moving and joyful experience. Hearing the familiar voice brought both happiness and tears to their eyes.

Randy isn’t alone in sharing a health scare. Here are other celebrities who have openly discussed their medical experiences…

Okay, so this is a little personal, but I wanted to share what happened to me in the ring last year. During a match in July 2025 with Piper Niven, I took a pretty hard elbow slam, and it actually caused one of my breast implants to shift. It was definitely a surprise, and a reminder that even as a pro, wrestling can be unpredictable!

She reassured her sister, Bella Garcia, saying they would get the issue resolved eventually. She explained to the doctor that once her divorce was finalized and she retired from her current job, she’d return to address the problem and ensure everything looked its best, as she anticipated needing to showcase it in the future and wanted it to be presentable.

Lupita Nyong’o, known for her role in 12 Years a Slave, received a diagnosis of uterine fibroids—non-cancerous growths in or around the uterus—in 2014, the same year she won an Academy Award for her performance in the film.

She didn’t share her diagnosis until 2025, when she revealed on Instagram that she had been privately struggling with it for over ten years.

She explained that growing up, many girls are told to expect pain with their periods and to accept it as a normal part of womanhood. This often leads to women dealing with menstrual discomfort privately, feeling like they’re facing it alone when it’s actually a very common experience.

I was so worried to hear that Riley Keough had to be hospitalized back in July 2025! Apparently, she developed a hernia – which is basically a weak spot in your abdominal muscles – and it was caused by wearing really tight pants. It just goes to show you, even something seemingly harmless like fashion can sometimes have unexpected health consequences.

Someone messaged Suki on X (formerly Twitter) asking why she hadn’t tweeted recently. Suki jokingly replied, explaining she’d been hiding a painful injury – a hernia caused by wearing extremely tight pants six months ago – and was afraid to mention it.

As a health and wellness advocate, I’m sharing that a familiar face, one of the stars from Beverly Hills, 90210, recently went through a bit of a scare. He let us know back in April of this year that he was recovering from surgery – it turns out his appendix was very close to bursting! Thankfully, he’s on the mend and doing much better.

Brian shared in an Instagram video that he recently experienced stomach pain which led him to the emergency room. He explained he had a perforated appendix – it hadn’t fully burst, but was very close to doing so.

He added, “I’m on the road to recovery. It’s not an easy process. This is my first major surgery.”

During a soccer game against Seattle Reign on September 14th at Lumen Field in Seattle, a midfielder from Racing Louisville collapsed after only a few minutes of play.

According to Reuters, the U.S. Women’s National Team player was seen slowly sitting down on the field with a teammate supporting her, before suddenly collapsing. Trainers were immediately called to assess her condition.

The National Women’s Soccer League reported that Savannah received immediate medical attention on the field and was taken to a nearby hospital for more tests. They stated she is currently in stable condition and is alert.

Adam Devine revealed that injuries from being hit by a cement truck at age 11 still cause him problems today.

In a 2025 interview on the In Depth With Graham Bensinger podcast, Devine described the last year as a “nightmare,” explaining he’s been experiencing spasms all over his body and was told by doctors he was facing a life-threatening condition.

He explained that his pain is intermittent, saying his body has some minor imperfections and isn’t quite working as it should.

A former contestant on The Bachelor revealed he had to crawl to the hospital because of severe back pain that flared up during a road trip with a friend.

I was really shocked listening to him on his Trading Secrets podcast back in March 2025. He described how his knees still felt tingly, which is just wild to think about. He put it in perspective by saying that just a few weeks before, he was squatting almost 300 pounds! But now, he can’t even do a squat, can’t balance on one leg without falling, and he actually said it felt like he’d had a stroke. It’s scary to hear how quickly things changed for him.

But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”

Gina Kirschenheiter, from The Real Housewives of Orange County, revealed that her ex-husband, Matt Kirschenheiter, had a heart attack in March 2025, but he is recovering well.

In March 2025, the actor from 30 Rock experienced a medical issue at a New York Knicks game and had to be taken out of Madison Square Garden in a wheelchair.

The comedian later posted on social media to explain he’d actually gotten food poisoning and was starting to feel better.

In February 2025, the former Even Stevens star revealed she was accidentally shot in the face during a birthday celebration for her husband, Brendan Rooney. They were on a clay pigeon shooting outing when the incident occurred.

According to her Instagram post, she was accidentally shot in the face by someone at a party who fired a gun unsafely. She said Brendan Rooney quickly helped her and took her to the hospital. She was hit five times, and one bullet nearly hit her right eye.

Oh my gosh, you guys, it’s so scary! Apparently, a tiny piece of something got stuck behind my eye – can you even imagine?! The doctors say it’s too dangerous to try and take it out with surgery right now, so they’re just going to keep checking on me. Thankfully, I can still see perfectly, which is the biggest relief, but I’m just so worried about what could happen!

The actress expressed immense gratitude for surviving a frightening experience. She shared how much she loves her family and friends, saying she realized how precious life is. ‘I saw everything I’ve ever done in a split second,’ she explained, ‘so please, cherish your loved ones and hug them often, because things can change unexpectedly.’

I’m such a fan of Amy Schumer, and I was really fascinated by her story about how the internet actually helped her! She was getting a lot of comments about her face looking ‘puffy’ after doing some interviews, and honestly, she thought people were just being mean. But then, amazingly, doctors started commenting too, saying they were genuinely concerned and thought she might have Cushing syndrome – something to do with high cortisol levels or steroid injections. It was so wild that she was getting ‘trolled’ by medical professionals! That’s when it clicked for her – she’d had a breast reduction and a C-section and had been getting steroid injections for her scars. She realized the injections had given her Cushing syndrome, and she never would have known if people hadn’t pointed it out online. She’s so grateful now, because she found out it was a type of Cushing syndrome that would resolve on its own, and she’s healthy. It’s just incredible that something that can often be so negative actually led to her getting the answers she needed and getting better. I’m so happy for her!

In December 2024, an AHL player suffered a skate cut during a game and needed 25 stitches to close the wound. After his son made a full recovery, New Jersey Devils General Manager Tom Fitzgerald told ESPN how relieved they were, saying, “We feel very lucky, and I wouldn’t want any parent to go through that.”

In March 2022, Hailey Bieber experienced a frightening health scare while having breakfast with her husband, Justin Bieber. She suddenly started having stroke-like symptoms, unable to speak and experiencing drooping on the right side of her face. Although these symptoms eventually passed, she went to the hospital for testing. Doctors discovered she’d had a small blood clot travel to her brain, which they identified as a TIA, or transient ischemic attack. Further investigation at UCLA revealed Hailey had a hole in her heart, called a patent foramen ovale (PFO). This hole allowed the blood clot to reach her brain, causing the TIA. Hailey has since undergone a successful procedure to close the PFO and is now recovering well.

The same year Hailey faced a health issue, Justin also went through a difficult time. In June 2022, he revealed he had been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which caused temporary paralysis on one side of his face. This forced him to cancel the rest of his Justice World Tour.

In a video posted to Instagram, Justin explained the condition affected the nerves in his ear and face, preventing him from blinking, smiling, or moving his nostril on the affected side. He also shared that it had become increasingly difficult for him to eat.

Fortunately, the paralysis eventually went away. Hailey shared on Good Morning America that Justin was recovering well and feeling much better, adding that they were grateful he was going to be okay. It had been a frightening and unexpected situation, but he was expected to make a full recovery.

Jamie Foxx recently shared details about the health scare he experienced in April 2023, which he had initially kept private. In his 2024 Netflix special, What Had Happened Was…, he explained that he was suffering from a severe headache when he suddenly lost consciousness. He doesn’t remember the next twenty days.

Initially, a doctor gave him a cortisone shot and sent him home, but his sister, Deidra Dixon, was worried and took him to the hospital. There, doctors discovered he’d had a brain bleed that led to a stroke.

After surgery, Jamie woke up in a wheelchair on May 4th, unable to walk. He then went to Chicago for rehabilitation and therapy. He expressed his gratitude for the prayers he received, saying, “I needed every prayer.”

The reality TV star said she temporarily stopped breathing while running a mile during the first challenge on the NBC show.

She shared on the show Fit for TV: The Reality of The Biggest Loser that her memory of the event was fragmented. She recalled hearing a helicopter, feeling like she was floating, and then seeing her grandfather. After that, everything went dark, but she then saw light, leading her to realize she had died that day.

Oh my god, she said her body was actually failing! Like, her organs were just giving up. She didn’t even know what was happening – it turned out she had this thing called rhabdomyolysis. And apparently, that’s your body’s way of screaming, ‘I’m done!’ It’s terrifying, honestly. I can’t even imagine how scary that must have been for her.

Emilia Clarke, known for her role in Game of Thrones, revealed a harrowing health battle in a 2019 essay for The New Yorker. While filming the series, she experienced a sudden, severe headache while at the gym. She described collapsing and being violently ill, realizing something was seriously wrong with her brain.

A hospital scan quickly revealed she had suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage – a life-threatening stroke caused by bleeding around the brain – due to a ruptured aneurysm. She underwent immediate surgery to repair it, but the pain was excruciating. During her recovery, she experienced aphasia, leaving her unable to speak clearly.

Though the aphasia eventually passed and she was discharged after a month, a 2013 scan revealed the aneurysm had doubled in size, requiring a second surgery. This surgery was unsuccessful, leading to a massive bleed and a critical situation. Doctors had to perform a more invasive procedure, accessing her brain directly through her skull.

Fortunately, Emilia is now fully recovered and says she’s “at a hundred per cent.”

Cori Broadus, Snoop Dogg’s daughter, recently shared how thankful she is for her family’s support after experiencing a stroke in January 2024. She immediately contacted them, sending a text and photo, and they quickly came to her aid. Cori ended up staying in the hospital longer than expected due to complications from lupus and kidney issues. Thankfully, she is now recovering well. “I’m doing great,” Cori told TopMob News. “I just had to work on regaining some motor skills, but overall I’m fine.”

Shailene Woodley struggled with significant health issues throughout her early twenties. In a September 2024 podcast interview, she described a time when she was losing her hearing, unable to walk for more than a few minutes without needing to rest for hours, and experiencing constant stomach pain. She faced a confusing array of diagnoses from different doctors. Determined to find answers, Woodley, who comes from a holistic background and studies herbalism, sought help from both traditional doctors and alternative healers. This search for well-being lasted for ten years. She explained that the physical discomfort led to anxiety around food and eventually to struggles with body image and identity. Ultimately, through a focus on both her physical and mental health, Woodley has fully recovered and is now very healthy and happy.
