So, it looks like those rumors about Red Dead Redemption 2 coming to current-gen consoles were true! A trustworthy source, NateTheHate, says the ports are still happening and we’ll be getting them eventually. I’m pretty hyped to replay it with hopefully better graphics and performance!
Rumors about improved versions of the console started circulating as early as 2022, but they gained more credibility earlier this year when a reliable source confirmed the new consoles are actually in development and scheduled for release this year. There have been a few misleading reports since then – for example, a voice actor hinted at something new, but it turned out to be a gathering of the original cast.
Despite that, NateTheHate still insists “they exist”:
Rumors suggest that Rockstar’s open-world game will be updated for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Rockstar usually announces news themselves, not through live events, so these updated versions could still come out this year. They’ve surprised fans before – for instance, the PlayStation 4 version of *Red Dead Redemption* was announced on social media on August 7th, 2023, and released only ten days later. Rockstar also tends to release trailers unexpectedly, like with GTA 6.
You’ve been able to play Red Dead Redemption 2 on PlayStation 5 all along using backwards compatibility. However, the PS4 version of the game runs at 30 frames per second and has a lower resolution compared to when it’s played on an Xbox Series X.
Considering NateTheHate’s reliable history, his statements are likely true. Rockstar could potentially announce and release a Red Dead Redemption 2 version for PS5 very quickly, which would help ease the anticipation for GTA 6.
