ITV is starting the year with a thrilling return of its popular original series, Red Eye.
Peter A. Dowling, the writer, and Kieron Moore, the director, are working together again on a new story. This time, DC Hana Li (Jing Lusi) and MI5 head Madeline Delaney (Lesley Sharp) find themselves in serious trouble.
The first season mainly revolved around a terrifying series of events that unfolded on a flight carrying a suspected killer to China, revealing a complicated global conspiracy.
The story continues amidst rising international tensions, shifting between a US Embassy in London under attack and a suspicious flight heading back to England. But who’s behind all the trouble?

Red Eye season 2 release date
The second season of Red Eye starts on ITV1 at 9pm on New Year’s Day, January 1st, 2026. All six episodes will also be available to stream on ITVX from that same day, so viewers can watch them all at once if they prefer.
With big premieres happening elsewhere – like the new season of The Night Manager on BBC and the final Stranger Things episode on Netflix UK – some viewers might prefer to watch Red Eye later when there’s less competition for their attention.
Red Eye season 2 cast: New and returning

I’m really excited for season two of Red Eye! Jing Lusi is back as DC Hana Li, and I loved watching her character in the first season as she figured out this huge, dangerous conspiracy that unfolded on a flight to China. Can’t wait to see what happens next!
Lesley Sharp returns as Madeline Delaney, now the head of MI5, and in season two, she faces a dangerous international flight similar to the one Hana experienced in the first season.
Jemma Moore, known for her role in “Lockwood & Co.”, returns as Jess, Hana’s energetic sister and a journalist. Robert Gilbert, famous for “Bergerac”, reprises his role as Superintendent Simon O’Brian, her supervisor.

Red Eye season 2 plot: What is it about?

In Red Eye season 2, the story jumps between a flight in danger and what’s happening on the ground. This season, Hana Li is stuck on land while Madeline Delaney finds herself on a plane facing a crisis.
ITV describes the plot as follows: A celebration for the new US Ambassador to London is thrown into chaos when a threat is made against a British airplane. Anyone attempting to leave the US Embassy will cause the plane to be destroyed, leading to an immediate lockdown and trapping everyone inside.
The murders start, immediately throwing British police officer Hana Li into a complicated political and legal mess. She’s forced to team up with Clay Brody, the Head of Embassy Security (played by Martin Compston), a former coworker who betrayed her in the past. Hana must overcome her lack of trust in him and concentrate on solving the case.
This time, the stakes are incredibly high: the target is a government plane, and Director General Madeline Delaney is on board.
