ITV has revealed the first trailer for Red Eye season 2 ahead of its release on New Year’s Day.
Everyone is excited for the second season of the popular drama, which did very well in ratings on ITV1 and ITVX after it first aired last year. Jing Lusi will be returning to play her character, DS Hana Li.
Richard Armitage, who starred as Dr. Matthew Nolan in the first season, won’t return for season two. Instead, Martin Compston, known for his role in Line of Duty, is joining the cast.
I’m really excited for season two of Red Eye! Apparently, Detective Superintendent Hana Li and this new guest character played by Martin Compston will have to put their issues aside and team up to unravel a seriously complicated and dangerous conspiracy. It sounds like a great setup!
The latest trailer offers a sneak peek at the unfolding drama, showing MI5 director Madeline Delany (Lesley Sharp) recruiting DS Hana Li to investigate a murder that happened within the US Embassy.

Now that the building is locked down, Li warned, “If we don’t find the person responsible quickly, anyone could become the next victim.”
The video offers a first glimpse of the tension between Li and Clay Brody, the Embassy Security Chief (played by Compston). Brody asserts his authority, telling Li, “I’m in charge, so stay out of my way and report to me.”
Season 2 will also feature the return of Lesley Sharp as MI5 head Madeline Delaney, Jemma Moore as journalist Jess Li, and other familiar faces like Jonathan Aris (known for His Dark Materials and The End of the Fing World) and Robert Guilbert (from Killing Eve and Bergerac), alongside Lusi.
Joining the cast for season two are Nicholas Rowe, known for his work on The Crown, and Trevor White from Industry, along with other new actors.
I recently heard from Jing Lusi about the new season, and she seems really pumped to be back with ‘Red Eye.’ She told me she’s especially excited to be working alongside Martin Compston again – she described the whole experience as a ‘rollercoaster,’ and you can tell she’s genuinely thrilled about it.
Compston also expressed his excitement about joining the Red Eye team, saying he’s looking forward to building on the first series’ success and delivering another exciting season for viewers.
I’m really excited to share that “Red Eye” is coming to ITV and STV on New Year’s Day! Plus, if I miss it, or just want to watch it again, it’ll also be available to stream on ITVX and the STV Player. I’ve already marked my calendar!
