Reese Witherspoon Shares How She’s “Passing the Microphone” to Gen Z

What, like it’s hard to be inspired by Reese Witherspoon?

Reese Witherspoon, ahead of Hello Sunshine’s Shine Away event in Los Angeles on October 11th and 12th, shared why she’s passionate about mentoring young women starting out in Hollywood.

Reese Witherspoon, 49, shared at an event in West Hollywood on October 10th that having a mentor is incredibly important. She recently had lunch with her own mentor, who provided invaluable guidance during her twenties, helping her navigate both career and personal decisions.

As someone who’s spent years helping women thrive, I truly believe one of the most powerful things we can do is connect face-to-face. It’s amazing what happens when we share experiences and learn directly from each other – those little nuggets of wisdom and proven strategies can be absolutely game-changing. It’s about gathering those best practices and getting real guidance from women who’ve been there.

As the actress from *Legally Blonde* said, she hoped that’s what everyone would be doing all weekend.

This started at the launch event on October 10th, where Reese Witherspoon announced the five new participants she’d be mentoring through Hello Sunshine Collective, her company’s program for developing talent.

“Hello Sunshine wasn’t created to be focused on just me,” she said. “It’s always been about giving other women a platform to share their stories and celebrate their successes. The Collective is simply a continuation of that mission.”

It’s a mission she hopes would make her younger self proud.

Witherspoon reflected on how far she’s come, saying her younger self would be amazed by the vibrant community Hello Sunshine has built. She explained that she’s always valued connection and celebrating the achievements of her friends, and her genuine curiosity about women has naturally led her to where she is today.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m always excited to see who’s joining the Hello Sunshine Collective, and this year’s group is fantastic! They announced some truly inspiring women at their event – sponsored by World of Hyatt and Sol De Janeiro – including Morgann Book, the host of the *Off the Shelf* podcast, Brooke Johnson, a record-breaking skateboarder, Ashton Lansdell from Party Animals baseball, professional soccer player Ali Riley with Angel City FC, and the incredibly talented talk show host, Dai Time. It’s all about celebrating amazing women doing incredible things!

And they are ready to shine their light back.

I’ve been a longtime follower of Reese’s Book Club and have read all of the selections,” Book shared with TopMob. “Being involved in a community that celebrates and elevates women’s voices—and the romance genre—is really meaningful to me, both as someone who creates and someone who loves to read.

Taylor Johnson has long admired the Collective, even auditioning for the Legally Blonde TV series hoping to catch their attention. However, she was ultimately noticed for something else entirely.

She joked that it took skating across the country to achieve her dream of working with Hello Sunshine, but she was happy with the effort because that was her intention. She explained it’s incredibly meaningful to her, signifying she’s reached a position that’s often difficult for women to attain.

For Lansdell, there’s a similar feeling of gratitude for finding a new community of women.

I was the only girl on my baseball team growing up, which always gave me a strong sense of independence. I never wanted anyone to dictate my path, and I learned to trust my instincts, pursue my passions, and make my dreams come true.

This weekend, she’ll be speaking on the Shine Away panel, “Help Them Grow, Watch Them Glow: Raising the Next Generation.” Time magazine highlighted that she’s inspired by Reese Witherspoon, whom she sees as a role model for female empowerment.

I’m really passionate about my online platform and making it a positive and inclusive community for people in Gen Z, helping others my age, and keeping things lighthearted,” she said. “I think everyone could use a little bit of Gen Z energy each day, and I’m hoping to bring that to Shine Away this weekend.

The third annual Shine Away event, sponsored by AT&T, will be held at Universal Studios on October 11th and 12th. Featured speakers include Chrissy Teigen, Brittany Snow, Mariska Hargitay, Olivia Culpo, Maren Morris, and Lilly Singh.

Reese Witherspoon explained to TopMob that her events bring together amazing women entrepreneurs, leaders, and creatives to share what they’re passionate about. She believes it’s a chance to disconnect from constant scrolling and the internet, step back into real life, and find some inspiration.
