Fans of Regular Show can look forward to a revival! Creator J.G. Quintel is working on a new series, currently titled Regular Show: The Lost Tapes, that will expand on the original Cartoon Network show. But that’s not all – Quintel is also developing another project based on his own graphic novel, this one set in a school rather than the familiar park where characters like Skips and Muscle Man worked.
Originally a graphic novel by Jillian Tamaki, Super Mutant Magic Academy is being adapted into an animated series by its creator, J.G. Quintel. An update from an animator working on the show, Dee Makes, confirmed the series will now release in 2026. While earlier reports suggested a possible 2025 premiere, it looks like the bulk of the animation work is now complete. This could be a busy year for Quintel, as there were also hints about a new Regular Show follow-up series coming soon.
What is This Unique Academy?

The new animated series is based on a graphic novel about the Super Mutant Magic Academy, a school for young mutants and witches. But it’s not just about superpowers – it’s also about the everyday dramas of being a teenager. Expect mishaps with science experiments, competitive bake sales, and a new student – a cat – who might just change the world. The story follows characters like Trixie, who worries about her modeling dreams, and the Everlasting Boy, who can’t seem to escape immortality. Meanwhile, Marsha secretly pines for Wendy. With sharp wit and humor, the series blends the magical with the mundane.
Earlier this year, Quintel discussed the upcoming animated series based on a graphic novel and how he first discovered it. He explained that he actively looks for creators through comics, and in 2015, he found Jillian Tamaki’s ‘Super Mutant Magic Academy.’ He immediately told her he thought it would make a great show, and she suggested he could be the one to develop it. He promised to remember that conversation, and seven years later, he contacted her after securing a development deal with the studio. While the graphic novel’s content suggests it might air on Adult Swim, neither Quintel nor Warner Bros. has confirmed this.
