Regular Show: The Lost Tapes Releases New Promo, And It’s Making Some Big Changes

Cartoon Network’s Regular Show: The Lost Tapes is shaping up to be a major sequel, and fans have been waiting for it for nearly a decade! The new series will take viewers back to when Mordecai and Rigby worked at the park with their boss, Benson. A recent promotional clip shows a new adventure for the pair, and the animation has a slightly different look than both the original show and what’s been revealed so far. The series premieres on May 11th.

A new promo for the show features Mordecai and Rigby training with Muscleman, though it’s not clear what they’re training for. The funny clip shows both of them drinking a lot of eggs, which causes trouble for Rigby – he’s allergic! This lands him in the hospital, and surprisingly earns an apology from Muscleman. Fans have also noticed the animation in this promo looks a bit smoother and the characters have slightly different designs than usual.

Cartoon Network hasn’t explained why the new promotional designs and animation are different from the original series. It’s also possible this promotion isn’t directly connected to the upcoming show. Whether Lost Tapes will significantly change from the original remains to be seen, but you can check out the promo video below.

Will Regular Show Change With The Times?

A promotional clip released earlier this year showed a scene from the spin-off that felt just like the original series. Since the original creator, JG Quintel, is back – both creating the show and voicing Mordecai – fans anticipated the production style would remain similar. While animation has increasingly used digital tools to speed things up, it’s still unclear if the animation for the spin-off, Lost Tapes, will be different.

Last month, creator J.G. Quintel shared his excitement about the new Regular Show spin-off. In a press release, he said working on it felt similar to the original series, explaining they were focused on having fun and making each other laugh. He’s looking forward to fans seeing it. While Quintel hasn’t revealed many details, his comments suggest the spin-off will maintain a similar animation style to the original Regular Show.

Sam Register, President of Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network Studios, also celebrated the return of Mordecai and Rigby. He joked that creator JG Quintel worked much harder than the characters themselves, otherwise fans might have waited another nine years for new episodes. Register praised Regular Show: The Lost Tapes for capturing the same funny and heartfelt spirit that made the original Regular Show so beloved, and expressed excitement about welcoming viewers back to the park.

As we previously mentioned, Regular Show: The Lost Tapes will premiere in May. The creators are planning for the spin-off to run for a long time, and it’s already been confirmed that Mordecai and Rigby will appear in at least forty-four episodes. This suggests that Regular Show could be around for many years to come.

I’m really curious to hear what everyone thinks about the animation style they’re using in Regular Show: The Lost Tapes! It seems different, and I’d love to chat about it with you all. Head over to the ComicBook Forum and let’s discuss!
