A remastered version of a little-known game originally released for the PlayStation 1 in 1998 is scheduled to launch in 2026. Unlike the original, which was exclusive to PlayStation, this remake will initially only be available on PC. While there’s a chance it could come to other platforms later, that hasn’t been confirmed. It’s somewhat unexpected that the game isn’t coming to the PS5 given its origins, but it’s not unusual for older console titles to reappear as PC exclusives.
Later this year, Sunsoft will release a remake of their classic game Hard Edge, now titled Hard Edge: War Zone. American players may remember the game as T.R.A.G., as that was its original name in the United States. Surprisingly, this remake isn’t a traditional update; it’s been reimagined as a four-versus-four real-time tactical card battler. While the original Hard Edge shared some similarities with the early Resident Evil games, this new direction is a significant departure. Sunsoft hasn’t explained the reasoning behind this change, but they have released a trailer, which you can view below.
Free Demo Releasing Soon
The remastered game will be available on PC through Steam later this year. Players can try a free demo during Steam Next Fest from June 15th to June 22nd. This also means the full game won’t be released until after June 22nd.
The announcement has received a mixed reaction from fans. Those who remember the original PlayStation game are surprised to see it return after so long, but even more surprised by the completely new gameplay. While the game still retains some elements of the original, the changes are significant enough that it feels like a different experience.
