A highly-rated Game Boy Advance game is getting a modern remake, scheduled for release in early 2026. While we don’t yet know which gaming systems it will be available on, the publisher, Ubisoft, has announced it will launch before the end of March 2026. We already knew the game was coming in 2026, but this is the first time they’ve given a specific timeframe – the first three months of the year.
I’m really excited about the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake! It feels like it’s been ages since Ubisoft first announced it way back in 2020 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. They were originally aiming for a 2022 release, but that didn’t pan out. It turns out the original development wasn’t going well, so they basically started over with Ubisoft Montreal taking the lead. The frustrating part is, after the switch, they stopped saying what platforms it would even be on – they just went completely silent about it!
About the Original and Remake
Many players remember Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time as a PlayStation 2, Xbox, or GameCube game, as it gained the most popularity on those consoles. Interestingly, the game first launched in 2003 as an exclusive for the Game Boy Advance, and wasn’t released on other systems until after that.
This action-adventure game is considered one of the best games released in its year, and a standout title in Ubisoft’s history. By 2014, it had sold over 14 million copies – a significant achievement for that time – and earned a Metacritic score of 92, making it one of the highest-rated games of the year.

While the story remains largely unchanged, this remake has been completely rebuilt with updated graphics and controls. You’ll find new character designs, cutscenes, voice acting, parkour moves, sound effects, and even a new soundtrack. Players who prefer the original experience can also unlock and play the classic version.
