So, Embracer Group just sold off Arc Games and Cryptic Studios. It’s kinda crazy because they only bought them back in 2021! As a gamer, I’m definitely curious to see what happens to the games these studios were working on now.
Project Golden Arc successfully acquired the companies for $30 million, with financial backing from XD Inc.
Arc Games published popular titles including Remnant: From the Ashes, Remnant II, Star Trek Online, Torchlight, and their latest release, Fellowship.

Cryptic Studios is the company that created popular online games like Star Trek Online, Neverwinter, and City of Heroes.
These two companies were acquired by Embracer Group in 2021, during a period when Embracer was rapidly buying up studios, which unfortunately led to many job losses and studio shutdowns.
Many of the studios that remained open have since been sold, including Gearbox, the company known for creating the Borderlands games.
What the Deal Means for the Two Sold Off Companies
Embracer Group CEO Phil Rogers recently stated that the deal will help the company concentrate on its most important games and properties, and improve its financial performance.
With the acquisition, THQ Nordic, a part of Embracer Group, will now handle publishing the Remnant game series, taking over from Arc Games.
Now, Coffee Stain will own the rights to the Fellowship game, but Arc Games will still be credited as a co-publisher.

Embracer Group is also spinning off one of its parts, Coffee Stain Group, giving its shareholders shares in the newly independent company. This change was officially approved by shareholders at a meeting on November 3, 2025.
If you currently own Embracer Group shares, you’ll automatically receive an equivalent number of Coffee Stain shares at no cost, and you don’t need to do anything to receive them.

So, Coffee Stain is going public! They’re listing on the Nasdaq First North Premier exchange in Stockholm, which basically means anyone – even us gamers who love their titles – will be able to buy stock in the company. They’re hoping to start trading around December 11, 2025. Pretty cool to see a developer we enjoy take this step!
Embracer plans to give Coffee Stain more freedom to concentrate on what it does best, while Embracer itself streamlines its other operations.
