Hideki Kamiya, a well-known game designer and director, has suggested that Resident Evil Requiem include a feature to reduce the amount of frightening content.
Hideki Kamiya, the creator of popular games like Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, Viewtiful Joe, and the original Resident Evil 2, and his team at Clovers Studio, have been taking a look at Capcom’s newest action-horror game.
You can hear what he thinks in this clip:
I’ve been telling everyone for ages, they really need to add an easy mode or something that isn’t so terrifying! I was watching someone play, and it just hit me again – not everyone wants to be scared stiff while they’re playing, you know?
Honestly, all I want is to have fun with the puzzles and the fighting – that’s what I’m here for! I really don’t need all the jump scares and creepy stuff to enjoy the game.
I think that’s totally fair! It’s Resident Evil, after all – a horror game! So, of course, it’s meant to be scary, and it’s not surprising if it gets to people.
I think it would be awesome if the game had an option to tone down the really scary parts. It would make it enjoyable for more people, like those of us who get easily spooked but still want to experience the story!
This game reminds us of SOMA, which received an update to remove all enemies. This let players fully focus on the story and atmosphere without worrying about threats.
I really loved that Crow Country, which is clearly inspired by the original Resident Evil games, lets you play through the whole thing without fighting if you want! You can just focus on the story and figuring out all the puzzles, which is awesome.
That’s not quite the same as what Kamiya is asking for, but it sounds feasible to us.
