Artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly common in video games, and NVIDIA’s newest announcement could be a turning point. This change will likely impact how players experience many current games, including Resident Evil Requiem.
NVIDIA recently announced DLSS 5 on Twitter, calling it a major leap forward in game graphics using artificial intelligence. While DLSS has always relied on AI, a new video demonstrates that this latest version will be a particularly impressive and noticeable upgrade.
RE Fans Aren’t Happy
Most gamers seem to strongly dislike NVIDIA DLSS 5, finding it far from impressive. NVIDIA describes it as a technology that creates incredibly realistic lighting and textures, blurring the line between what’s rendered and what’s real.
One user, PlayStation Nostalgia, simply said “stop,” while FPSthetics expressed strong disapproval, calling the current state “horrible” and criticizing the decision to release it. It’s clear that the improvements NVIDIA is promising with DLSS 5 are a significant departure from what previous versions of DLSS have achieved.
Instead of simply improving the graphics, this technology adds a noticeable and unwanted AI effect that distorts character appearances and ruins the game’s original visual quality. As one user put it, “This looks really bad – nobody wants an artificial, low-quality filter applied to their games.”
A recent social media clip demonstrates the dramatic visual differences when using DLSS 5 in games like Resident Evil Requiem, Hogwarts Legacy, Starfield, and EA Sports FC. One user, Cirilla Riannon, was particularly surprised by how much the character Grace Ashcroft in Resident Evil Requiem changed with DLSS 5 turned on.
It’s strange, but the graphics in Resident Evil Requiem, especially the character Grace and the streets of Wrenwood, actually look better when NVIDIA’s DLSS 5 is turned off. With DLSS 5 on, the game has an unnatural, artificial appearance that doesn’t do justice to the artists who created it, and this could be a problem whenever this technology is used in future games.
Nvidia Is Rolling This Out In The Fall
NVIDIA plans to launch DLSS 5 this fall, but early reactions from gamers haven’t been positive. Many have already voiced strong disapproval, and it’s likely this sentiment won’t change. Games like Resident Evil Requiem could be negatively affected by the new technology.
