Return of Beloved Anime Gets New Look 1 Month After 2025’s Best Finale

After a ten-year wait, a second season of the beloved Shojo series, Yona of the Dawn, has been announced! The news came in December 2025, coinciding with the manga’s final chapter, which offered a poignant conclusion to the story. Originally debuting in Hakusensha’s Hana to Yume magazine in 2009, the series ran for 16 years, finally delivering what fans had long hoped for. The story gained even more popularity in 2014 with an anime adaptation by Studio Pierrot, chronicling Yona’s adventure to gain strength and safeguard her kingdom. What should have been a happy 16th birthday turns tragic when her love interest, Soo-won, kills her father and tries to do the same to her.

After escaping the castle with the help of her childhood friend and protector, Hak, Yona discovers they have nowhere to go. Now without a home or her previous life, she sets out on a quest to find the four legendary Dragon Warriors and claim her rightful place as Princess of the Kouka Kingdom. The manga will conclude with Volume 47, scheduled for release in Japan on February 20th, 2026, with translated versions to follow for international readers. The cover for the final volume beautifully depicts Yona shielding Hak amidst the turmoil caused by the Dragon Gods.

Yona of the Dawn Season 2 Will Continue The Main Characters’ Journey

The first season of the anime ends with Yona, Hak, and Yoon having found all the Dragon Warriors. While Yona is still figuring out what to do next, Zeno’s questions push her to think about the future. Season 2 will follow their travels as they work to revive the declining Kouka Kingdom, uncovering corruption and crime throughout the land and beyond.

The next season of the anime will delve deeper into the meaning of the prophecy and the legend foretold by the oracle, Iksoo. So far, a sequel has been confirmed, but there’s no trailer or even a hint of when it will be released. Although updates have been scarce, we anticipate learning more details later this year.

You can now watch the first season of the anime on Crunchyroll. If you prefer to read the manga, the first 45 volumes are available for purchase as physical copies or digital downloads on the Viz Media website. A special artbook with 64 pages will be released alongside Volume 47, and it will be A5 size. The series will conclude with Volume 48, which will be a shorter release containing just two chapters and an extra story – the release date for this final volume is still to be announced.
