For years, Succession was a huge hit for HBO. Now that it’s finished, a new thriller – boasting a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes – is stepping in as its likely successor. HBO consistently delivers high-quality series, arguably more consistently than any other streaming service. But because their shows are so different from each other, it’s hard to find a perfect replacement when a great one ends, leaving viewers wanting something similar.
It’s been hard to find a show as good as Succession since it ended. Its unique blend of drama, comedy, and insightful look at society, combined with unforgettable characters, made it almost flawless. While shows like The Righteous Gemstones came close, they didn’t quite hit the mark. Even Jesse Armstrong, the creator of Succession, hasn’t been able to recreate that same brilliance with his new show, Mountainhead. But now, a new series might finally fill the void.
Industry Could Be HBO’s New Succession

The fourth season of Industry is now available, and many viewers think it’s a great alternative to Succession. It debuted shortly after Succession in November 2020, and has released a new season every two years, with the latest one arriving in 2026.
Industry takes place at Pierpoint, a top investment bank in London. The series follows a group of ambitious candidates fiercely competing for a few permanent jobs, and many will stop at nothing to succeed. Throughout the show, we get to know the characters personally, which adds another layer of drama to the intense job competition.
The competitive aspect of this show is reminiscent of Succession. Succession centered around the Roy siblings vying for control of their father Logan Roy’s company after he retired. While Industry doesn’t have the family dynamic of Succession, the intense competition for positions is a key element.
Both Succession and Industry offer a rare, satirical glimpse into the world of high-powered businesses. While Succession focuses on the inner workings of a huge media empire, Industry does the same for investment banking, complete with all the specialized language and insider terminology you’d expect.
After four seasons, Industry is now receiving the kind of critical praise that puts it in the same conversation as Succession. Succession consistently scored high on Rotten Tomatoes, with each season earning ratings of 89%, 97%, 97%, and 97%. Industry‘s seasons received 76%, 96%, 98%, and 96%. Although Industry‘s first season wasn’t as well-received, its third season actually surpassed the ratings of any Succession season. Overall, both shows appear to be equally well-regarded by critics.
If you enjoyed Succession, you’ll likely enjoy Industry too. With the fourth season now available, it’s a great time to start watching and see if it fills the void left by Succession. Join the discussion and find out for yourself!
