RHOSLC’s Britani Bateman Makes Surprise American Idol Appearance

Ting ting ting—Britani Bateman has an announcement.

Jen Shah from The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City made a brief appearance on the February 2nd episode of American Idol. Her niece, Carmen Lorell Martin, auditioned for judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and Carrie Underwood, hoping to earn a spot on the show with a golden ticket.

Before 20-year-old Britani performed, her mother, 54, quickly got the judges’ attention. She famously tapped a wine glass with a butter knife – a trick she’s used on the show before – and then introduced herself.

“Do you know me?” she asked during the segment. “I’m Britani. Britani Bateman.”

Realizing the interviewers didn’t seem to know who she was, the reality star admitted the situation wasn’t about her and redirected the focus back to Carmen.

Let me tell you about my niece – she’s absolutely incredible! I was so excited to share her story, and honestly, it’s mind-blowing. Carrie even joked that if we didn’t have something amazing to say, my niece would… well, let’s just say she knows how to make her point! She’s a force of nature.

Carmen began playing “Thought It Was Love” by Ty Myers on the piano. Carrie thought Carmen had a lovely voice, but encouraged her to sing with more energy and power.

So, Carmen tried again, performing “Let Me Be Your Star” from the TV show Smash as a duet with Britani. Although the Grammy winner thought Carmen still needed to relax and have more fun, the performance was good enough to send the hopeful singer to Hollywood Week.

Carmen is clearly following in her aunt’s creative footsteps. Last year, Britani released a holiday EP and debuted her one-woman show, What About Me: An Evening With Britani Bateman, in New York City, describing the show as the start of a new phase in her career.

Britani explained to People that while many know her from Housewives, this performance allows her to show a different side of herself. She described it as a chance to be just Britani – without the snow or drama, and simply have fun.

She explained that she’s putting her heart and soul into the show, and she’s excited for the audience to experience that same vibrant feeling.

I’m completely hooked on the second season! It’s incredible watching Camille and Issei tackle this huge mystery – they’re trying to find out where the world’s best wine actually comes from, something even their famous dad couldn’t figure out. What started as a way to honor their family history quickly turned into this massive, globe-spanning quest. They’re digging up all sorts of forgotten stories, old feuds, and secrets that have been hidden for ages. It’s really pushing them to their limits, forcing them to confront who they are and how far they’ll go. Honestly, I’m worried about them – this search could tear them apart as brother and sister, or even be the end of both of them!

The ninth season of American Idol is set to premiere on ABC, marking the show’s 24th season overall.
