Richard Gere & Alejandra Silva Pack on the PDA During Rare Outing

Richard Gere is having a cozy autumn in New York with his wife.

Richard Gere and Alejandra Silva attended a screening of his documentary, *Wisdom of Happiness*, in the city on October 16th, showing that their relationship is still strong.

While out together, the couple – parents to Alexander, 6, and James, 5 – shared a kiss for the cameras on the red carpet. Both dressed for the occasion, with Richard, 76, opting for a white shirt and blue pinstripe suit, and Alejandra, 42, wearing a black gown.

This isn’t the first time the pair have publicly shown their support for *Wisdom of Happiness*, a film where the Dalai Lama shares his teachings on peace. Richard, who was an executive producer on the project, and his wife even attended the film’s premiere at the Zurich Film Festival last October. The *Chicago* actor explained how meaningful this release was for both of them.

He’s dedicated nearly nine decades to helping others,” he said. “Being around him is incredibly inspiring, and it shows us that with hard work, we can all achieve great things, too.

Besides spending time with their spiritual leader, Richard and Alejandra are busy planning their next steps. They moved to Spain with their children, along with Alejandra’s son, Albert (age 11), from her previous relationship with Govind Friedland, late last year.

Richard, who is also a father to 25-year-old Homer with his ex-wife Carey Lowell, shared on *The Tonight Show* in November that he and his Spanish wife plan to live in Madrid for several years. He added that he will definitely return to the US eventually.

Just as he said, Alejandra hinted that they’ve begun planning their move back to the United States.

Alejandra told the Daily Mail in April that they plan to live in Spain for a few years before returning home. She emphasized that they always return, explaining they come back each summer for their children’s camp. They’re simply trying to find a way to balance their time between both locations.

Right now, they seem incredibly happy in Spain. Continue reading to discover other celebrities who have chosen to live outside of Hollywood

After 19 seasons, *The Ellen DeGeneres Show* ended in 2022 following accusations of a negative and harmful workplace. These claims led to an internal investigation, the firing of several producers, and significant public criticism.

Ellen DeGeneres recently returned to performing with her Netflix stand-up special, *For Your Approval*, released in September 2024. Before the special aired, she announced her plans to leave Hollywood completely.

During her recent stand-up tour, Ellen DeGeneres announced to her audience that she’s retiring after her upcoming Netflix special. According to SFGate, she stated, “This is the last time you’re going to see me.” She and her wife, Portia de Rossi, have since moved to England. Ellen confirmed to Richard Bacon in July 2025 that they relocated in November 2024 following Donald Trump’s reelection.

Tyra Banks, host of *America’s Next Top Model*, decided to move to Australia partly to focus on her ice cream company, SMiZE and Dream. She explained on *Today with Jenna & Friends* that her business had been supplying ice cream to places like airplanes and cruise ships, and she was frequently traveling to Australia where a large production facility was creating her recipes. She grew to love the country during these visits.

Banks also recognized Australia as a promising market for her product, noting that Australia, along with America and New Zealand, are the top three countries for ice cream consumption.

Ultimately, the supermodel relocated to Australia with her son, York (whose father is Erik Asla), and her boyfriend, Louis Bélanger-Martin, sharing that Australia has been a wonderful experience for her and her family.

Eva Longoria, known for her role on *Desperate Housewives*, has moved from Los Angeles and now splits her time between Mexico and Spain with her husband, JosĂ© BastĂłn, and their son, Santiago. She explained to *Marie Claire* that while she lived in Los Angeles her entire adult life, the city had changed, and the pandemic accelerated that change. She cited issues like homelessness and taxes as contributing factors, but emphasized she doesn’t want to criticize California, she simply feels it’s time for a new chapter.

Longoria clarified in an interview on *The View: Behind the Table* podcast that her move wasn’t a reaction to the political climate, despite speculation. She explained that work commitments, including filming *Land of Women* in Spain and *Searching for Mexico*, led to an extended stay, and she dislikes the idea of it being seen as a political statement.

Despite the move, Longoria remains actively involved in her career, with recent projects including appearances in *Only Murders in the Building* and *Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip*. She also expressed gratitude for her ability to move, acknowledging that many Americans don’t have the same privilege and feels sadness for those who are stuck in a difficult situation.

Actor Richard Gere has moved from Chicago to Spain with his family. He shared on *The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon* in November 2024 that his wife, Alejandra Silva, who is from Galicia, encouraged the move, and they plan to live in Madrid for several years.

Gere is excited about the opportunity for his young sons, Alexander and James, to thrive in a bilingual environment. He also has an adult son, Homer, with his ex-wife, Carey Lowell.

It appears the entire family is adjusting well to the change. In an interview with *Elle España* in January 2025, Gere said, “We are happier than ever,” and described the move as a positive step for everyone.

Singer Christina Milian and her family have officially made Paris their home. Married to French singer Matt Pokora for over seven years, the couple previously spent six months of each year commuting between the U.S. and France. They decided to fully relocate so their children – Violet (from a previous marriage), and sons Isaiah and Kenna – could attend school in France.

Milian feels it’s a fantastic opportunity for her kids, who are now happily settled and fluent in French. She enjoys an active lifestyle with them during the day and works remotely at night, taking advantage of the time difference. She describes the arrangement as a healthy balance, and says her family is thriving in their new life.

Lindsay Lohan is frustrated by the ongoing speculation surrounding her departure from Los Angeles. She recently explained that her busy career and social life in the early 2000s were often overshadowed by constant paparazzi attention, which she found irritating. In a March 2024 interview with Bustle, she expressed a desire for her work to be the focus, rather than tabloid stories. This feeling contributed to her decision to move abroad, first to London and then to Dubai, where she also started opening beach clubs in Greece, and to generally seek a life away from the public eye.

Lindsay Lohan admitted she worried she might never find love, wondering if it would ever happen for her. She realized she needed to focus on herself before things started falling into place and she could say ‘yes’ to the opportunities she truly wanted.

Fortunately, she did find love with Bader Shammas, whom she married in 2022. They now have a son, Luai, born in 2023.

Although they currently live in Dubai, Lindsay hasn’t left acting behind. She’s continued to star in films like *Our Little Secret*, *Irish Wish*, and *Freakier Friday*.

Josh decided to leave Hollywood after some careful thought. He explained to *People* magazine in July 2024 that Hollywood isn’t just a location, but a way of life. Being surrounded by people constantly focused on the movie industry, he felt, would limit his perspective. He wanted a life with more variety.

“I’ve always wanted to be around people doing different things, things that would take my mind off work and help me grow,” Josh said. He described this as essential to a fulfilling life.

So, Josh, his wife Tamsin Egerton, and their four children moved to the countryside in Hampshire, England. He told *The Guardian* in July 2024 that time flies with a big family, and while life might seem simpler, it’s filled with what truly matters. Despite the move, Josh has remained active in his career, appearing in films like *Verity*, *Fight or Flight*, and *Trap*.

If you don’t follow Jesse on social media, you might be surprised to learn he no longer lives in Los Angeles. In a February 2025 interview with *CBS News Sunday Morning*, the *A Real Pain* star revealed he’s lived in Indiana for the past ten years, finding it a more comfortable and stable environment. Despite being an Oscar nominee, Jesse leads a remarkably normal life with his wife, Anna Strout, and son, Banner. He explained that he avoids social media and doesn’t spend much time networking within the industry. With a teacher for a wife and a son who isn’t particularly interested in movies, Jesse feels removed from the pressures of constantly evaluating his place in Hollywood.

Eliza Dushku, known for her roles in shows like *Buffy the Vampire Slayer* and the movie *Bring It On*, announced in September 2024 that she’s now a certified psychedelic-assisted therapist and is continuing her education in the field of mental health.

She explained to *Boston Magazine* that she was able to change her life’s path to prioritize her own well-being, with the goal of then being able to help others. She felt it was important to share the positive changes she’d experienced – the peace and renewed energy she’d found – because she now clearly understood her true purpose in life.

The actress best known for playing Wilma Flintstone shared that she and her son, Clay, moved to Ireland in January 2025 and she’s now working to become an Irish citizen, as her grandparents were from there. While she mentioned recent political events as a factor in her decision to move, she hasn’t ruled out the possibility of returning to her home country in the future.

In a TikTok video, she shared that she misses her children, her friends, and her life back home. She’s working on building a new life in this country, and they’ll think about returning to America when it’s a safe and equal place for everyone.

Actress Evangeline Lilly, known for her role in *Ant-Man and the Wasp*, has announced she’s stepping away from acting for an unspecified amount of time after two decades in the business.

You know, I’ve been reflecting a lot lately on what truly makes life satisfying, and I’m feeling incredibly grateful right now. I recently shared that I’m finally living the life I’ve always envisioned, and it’s amazing. It wasn’t always easy – choosing a path that isn’t about chasing wealth or fame can be a little daunting, honestly. But when you align with your true purpose, what I call your ‘dharma,’ it fills you with a sense of fulfillment that completely overshadows any fear. It’s a really powerful shift!

However, she’s not ruling out a return to Hollywood completely, saying, “I could see myself going back someday, but right now, I’m happy where I am.”

Since finishing his role on the Netflix series *V-Wars* in 2019, the actor best known from *The Vampire Diaries* hasn’t taken on another acting job. He’s been focusing on a personal project: working to fight climate change by improving soil health around the world.

Ian Somerhalder took a break from acting over four years ago to focus on his family, develop his businesses, and get his documentaries released. He told TopMob News in November 2023 that these films—Kiss the Ground, released in 2020, and its sequel, Common Ground—highlight the importance of regenerative farming. He shares two children with his wife, Nikki Reed.

Looking ahead, the actor said he envisions himself as a rancher, focused on building lasting brands – like his bourbon and health company. He’s deeply committed to sustainable farming and healthy soil, principles he and his family practice. He explained that this future is his true passion, and that’s why these things matter so much to him – it’s simply who he is and who he’s determined to become.

In a February 2021 episode of her podcast, *Empty Inside*, former *iCarly* star Jennette McCurdy revealed to guest Anna Faris that she had quit acting a few years prior. She’s now pursuing writing and directing, alongside hosting the podcast.

As someone who’s spent a lot of time observing how careers can shape us, I really connected with Jennette’s honesty in her memoir, *I’m Glad My Mom Died*. She shared that looking back at her acting work, particularly the roles she took as a teen, fills her with embarrassment and regret. She explained that doing those shows from age 13 to 21, she was already cringing by 15, realizing it wasn’t something her friends were impressed by – and honestly, it felt unfulfilling. It’s a powerful reminder that success, especially when it comes early, doesn’t always equal happiness or a sense of purpose. She really feels a resentment toward that part of her life.

Despite past difficulties, she hasn’t ruled out returning to acting. She explained to TopMob News in October 2022 that writing her book helped her consider acting in a new light, free from the pressures she previously felt. She believes the only way she might consider it again would be if she wrote a role specifically for herself.

It seemed like a pretty easy decision. The chance to marry Prince Harry, focus on the charities we care about, and wear the Queen’s beautiful tiaras would definitely make leaving Hollywood worthwhile.

Similar to Grace Kelly’s journey from Hollywood to Monaco, Meghan Markle transitioned from her acting career in Toronto, where she starred in the show *Suits*, to a life within the British Royal Family. Now that she and Prince Harry have stepped down as senior royals and live in Montecito, California, Meghan is returning to professional life. This includes a multi-year deal with Netflix, where she released the 2022 docuseries *Harry & Meghan* and will launch a lifestyle show, *With Love, Meghan*, in 2025. She has also started a podcast and launched her brand, As Ever.

After starring in over 40 films since she began her career with 1994’s *The Mask*, the actress really needed a rest when she finished filming *Annie* in 2014.

She told Gwyneth Paltrow that she realized she wanted a different lifestyle. After years of intense work and filmmaking, she felt burned out. She explained that making a movie is incredibly demanding—you’re committed for long hours every day for months, leaving no room for anything else.

Cameron Diaz had many interests she wanted to pursue, including writing—she followed up her 2013 bestseller, *The Body Book*, with *The Longevity Book* in 2016—and starting a family with her husband, Benji Madden. Though she told *InStyle* in 2019 that she didn’t miss acting and was focused on wellness, it seemed she might be open to returning for at least one more project.

Jamie Foxx explained that convincing Cameron Diaz to star in the 2025 Netflix movie *Back in Action* involved a lot of pleading. “We practically begged her to do it again,” he told TopMob News. “We all love her and have been eagerly waiting for her return, and this is going to be amazing.”

The actor stated firmly that he wouldn’t return to the show after completing his five years on *Empire*. When *Extra* asked Terrence Howard about his plans before the sixth and final season aired in 2019, he said, “I’m finished with acting. I’m done with pretending.”

Despite appearing in a few projects since then, the Oscar-nominated actor announced his retirement from acting again in 2022 while promoting his Peacock series, *The Best Man: The Final Chapters*. He explained to Entertainment Tonight that he felt he’d given his all as an actor and now wants to focus on watching and enjoying new talent, rather than repeating past performances.

Even with those past issues, Howard has continued to act, appearing in shows like *Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist* and the Netflix movie *Shirley*. He also has several other projects planned for the future.

After his character, King Joffrey, died on screen in 2014, the 21-year-old actor told EW he was leaving acting. He explained that he’d been acting since he was a child, but simply wasn’t enjoying it as much anymore.

Jack, no longer a young star, felt some of the joy had faded. He explained that turning his hobby into a job changed things. “Before, it was just something fun I did with friends or during the summer,” he said. “I still like it, but making a living from it alters how you feel about it. It’s not that I dislike it, it’s just not my career goal.”

After a six-year hiatus, Jack returned to acting in 2020 with a role in the BBC series *Out of Her Mind*. Since then, he’s also been in films like *Rebecca’s Boyfriend* and *In the Land of Saints and Sinners*, and TV shows including *Safe Harbor* and *The Famous Five*.

After becoming famous for her role in *Fast Times at Ridgemont High*, Jennifer Aniston married actor Kevin Kline in 1989. They decided to stagger their work schedules so one of them could always be home with their children, Owen and Greta. Greta is now a singer known as Frankie Cosmos.

He added that Phoebe has consistently prioritized staying home with her children whenever she was scheduled to work. While she briefly appeared in her friend Jennifer Jason Leigh’s 2001 independent film, *The Anniversary Party*, Cates mainly focuses on running her New York City store, Blue Tree.

During the peak of his success with films like *Ghostbusters* and *Honey, I Shrunk the Kids*, the actor paused his career after his wife sadly passed away from breast cancer in 1991. He wanted to dedicate his time to raising his children, Rachel and Mitchell.

I seriously can’t believe it’s been so long since Rick was on the big screen – 1997?! It feels like forever! I was SO upset when I heard about that awful incident in New York in 2020, it just proves how much we all adore him. And now, FINALLY, some amazing news! He’s coming back! I’m absolutely thrilled he’s teaming up with Josh Gad in the new *Shrunk* movie – it’s going to be incredible! I’ve been waiting for this moment for years, and I can barely contain my excitement!

After marrying fashion designer Adam Kimmel in 2010, actress Drew Barrymore suggested she was considering stepping back from acting. She told Vogue that most acting roles require a lot of intimate scenes, and she wasn’t comfortable with that. While she felt her relationship was strong, she believed any challenging or potentially compromising work needed to be truly worthwhile to justify the risk.

After her son, Martin, joined his sister, Louisanna, in 2014, she firmly decided to step away from acting. She told *Us Weekly* in 2016 that she felt like an outsider to the movie world and was now completely focused on being a mom. She also helps her husband, Kimmel, with his work and enjoys painting as a hobby, explaining that her children were the main reason she stopped pursuing acting.

She’d built a successful career with roles in popular shows like *Ally McBeal*, *Nip/Tuck*, *Arrested Development*, and *Scandal*. After those experiences, the Australian actress felt ready to try something new.

Turning 45, I started thinking about trying something completely new and challenging,” she shared on *The Ellen DeGeneres Show* in 2018. “I had a good idea of what my acting career would look like for the next decade or two, so I decided to leave that behind and start my own business.

Her company, General Public, which creates art for everyone, was almost complete – she just needed to finish one final piece.

I spoke with Mitch Hurwitz, the creator of *Arrested Development*, and told him I was done with acting, so I wouldn’t be in a potential season five. He was very understanding and supportive, and we had a good talk. Surprisingly, he ended up writing my character into five episodes.

It’s understandable why, after winning three Oscars, an actor might decide to retire. Following his sixth Academy Award nomination for the 2017 film *Phantom Thread*, the actor announced through his representative that he was retiring from acting. The statement expressed his gratitude to those he’d worked with and his audience over the years, and clarified that this was a personal decision, with no further comments to be made.

Just as Daniel Day-Lewis had announced his retirement from acting, a new project drew him back in. In October 2024, Focus Features revealed he would star in *Anemone*, a film he co-wrote with his son, Ronan Day-Lewis, who will also be directing.

I’ve been such a fan of Bridgit Mendler since her *Good Luck Charlie* days, so I was really impressed when she decided to focus on her education! She stepped away from acting in 2018 to get her master’s degree at MIT, and then she didn’t stop there – she actually earned her PhD there too! As if that wasn’t enough, she then went on to study law at Harvard. It’s amazing to see how dedicated she is to learning!

On top of everything else, Bridgit founded Northwood Space, a startup focused on building ground stations for sending and receiving data from satellites. She became the company’s CEO in February 2023.
