Richard Osman voiced concerns about Thursday Murder Club plot changes – multiple times

Fans of the *Thursday Murder Club* books were disappointed when the Netflix movie came out last month, noticing several changes from the original stories.

It wasn’t unexpected that the movie didn’t follow the first Thursday Murder Club book exactly, but some plot choices-particularly involving the character Bogdan-received criticism.

Apparently, the author, Richard Osman, felt the same way when he initially learned about the changes.

During an appearance on the ITV show *This Morning* this week, Robert Osman discussed how he felt about alterations made to the books. Host Ben Shephard pointed out how much readers cherish the characters, prompting the conversation.

When asked if he’d ever questioned the filmmakers’ decisions, Osman confirmed he had. He stated, “I did say that a couple of times, yes, I did.”

He was jokingly challenging anyone to ask if Steven Spielberg actually took his advice. He pointed out that the people involved were incredibly talented – they created *E.T.*, and he hadn’t! It was his way of saying they knew best.

Osman explained that he trusted the people who were turning his book into a film, and he sees the movie as existing *with* the book, not as a replacement for it.

He explained that he’s finished writing his book, *The Thursday Murder Club*, which is now available wherever books are sold and will remain available for years to come. He believes this version, born from his own feelings and experiences, will be the one remembered even a century from now.

I’ve already adapted stories for film, so I’m not going to do it again. It’s best left to talented writers and creatives.

They need to create a two-hour adaptation of this story. If they included everything from the book, it would be over four and a half hours long and people would lose interest. So, they have to allow others to interpret and present their own versions.

They often face decisions different from the ones you’d make, and that’s what makes it interesting.
