The new poster for Rick and Morty Season 9 is different from past posters because it doesn’t offer any hints about what’s going to happen in the upcoming episodes. The latest season of the Adult Swim animated comedy will continue to follow the wild adventures of Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith, but details about the plot are still secret. However, Rick and Morty actor Harry Belden has shared with TopMob that Season 9 will be an improvement over previous seasons.
Adult Swim has revealed the poster for Season 9 of Rick and Morty, announcing its premiere date of May 24th. Interestingly, past season posters have hinted at key characters or storylines, but this new poster doesn’t seem to do that – it doesn’t offer any clues about what’s coming up.

The poster for Season 9 of Rick and Morty is different from all previous posters. Instead of hinting at a character or storyline from the new season, it’s completely blank, breaking a 12-year tradition of teasers.
The poster shows Rick curled up, seemingly able to stretch his body – an ability he may have gained in an episode involving the Multiverse. The lines behind him hint that he’s overextended this power, and now Morty needs to help him resolve the issue.
You know, I was thinking about that new Season 9 poster, and how little it actually shows. It struck me that maybe that’s the point! They might be intentionally keeping things under wraps to get everyone really excited and talking about what’s coming up. It’s a classic hype-building tactic, and honestly, it’s working on me!
Every Tease In Past Rick & Morty Season Posters
Season 1

The poster for Rick and Morty Season 1 featured Rick and Morty stepping out of a portal to other dimensions, hinting at the show’s central idea of traveling through multiple universes – a concept that became a key part of the series.
The poster’s background subtly suggested the unpredictable nature of alien life, hinting at the characters’ encounters with extraterrestrials. It also clearly established the relationship between the two main characters – a quirky scientist and his grandson.
Season 2

The poster for Season 2 hinted at major events and ideas from the new season, like the death of Birdperson and the first appearance of Mr. Poopybutthole.
This poster includes a barbecue scene that’s a nod to the “Total Rickall” episode from Season 2, where the family struggled with fake memories. In that episode, Rick had a particularly overwhelming flashback to a barbecue with a large group of people. Several characters from that flashback—Pencilvester, Tinkles, Hamurai, and Poopybutthole—are also featured on the poster.
I was so excited to see that President Curtis, who’s getting his own Rick and Morty show, made it into the poster! And they even included Morty’s crush, Jessica, which was a fun little detail.
Season 3

The poster for Season 3 of Rick and Morty was very simple in design and hinted at one of the show’s most famous, meme-generating scenes: Pickle Rick.
In the Rick and Morty episode “Pickle Rick” (Season 3, Episode 3), Rick transforms himself into a pickle to get out of family counseling. The episode then follows his attempts to turn back into a human after becoming a literal pickle person.
Season 4

The poster for Rick and Morty Season 4 hinted at the death of Chachi, a small, car-shaped character who had a short partnership with Morty.
Chachi was instantly killed by alien snakes after helping Morty get the Ultimate Cube; he was shot through the head.
Season 5

The poster for Rick and Morty’s fifth season hinted at the arrival of Mr. Nimbus, a strange creature who seems to be after Rick.
It turned out Mr. Nimbus had been Rick’s enemy for years, and he showed up to accuse Rick of breaking an agreement.
Season 6

The poster for Rick and Morty Season 6 hints at a key scene from the first episode, where Rick, Morty, and Jerry all glow green. This glow wasn’t due to a reset of portal travel itself, but because the three characters weren’t originally from that particular universe. The episode revealed Rick had reset the travelers instead.
This discovery was important because it showed everyone’s origins: Rick hails from Dimension C-137, Morty is originally from the Cronenberg Dimension, and Jerry comes from a world where his family was still unhappy.

Season 7

The poster for Season 7 of Rick and Morty hints at the importance of Rick Prime, who is the season’s main villain. Rick is seeking revenge on Rick Prime because Prime is responsible for the death of Rick’s wife and daughter, Beth, which happened a long time ago.
Season 8

The poster for Season 8 of Rick and Morty included a nod to the ‘Goat and Picasso Dimension’ first seen in the episode ‘Jerry Variants.’ This dimension, along with another, appears in a fast-paced sequence where different versions of the character Jerry travel between realities to make their escape.
