More details have come to light concerning the death of Rihanna’s dad.
Ronald Fenty, the former partner of Rihanna’s ex-Monica Braithwaite, passed away due to a combination of acute respiratory failure, aspiration pneumonia, and metastatic pancreatic cancer on May 30th. This information was obtained by TMZ on June 26th from a death certificate.
The 70-year-old’s death may have been caused by or complicated by acute renal failure and acute tubular necrosis (a type of kidney injury), according to the report.
Besides Rihanna, Ronald is also a father to his son Rorrey Fenty, who is 35 years old, as well as Samantha Fenty, Kandy Fenty, and Jamie Fenty, children from previous relationships.
Over the course of her professional life, Rihanna – mother to RZA (3) and Riot (nearly 2 years old), and expecting a third child with A$AP Rocky – has often discussed how her parents’ relationship broke apart in 2002 due to her father’s battles with addiction. As recounted by the Grammy-winning artist, it took several years for the rift caused by Ronald’s struggles to be mended.
In a 2012 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Rihanna candidly confessed that she was extremely upset with him. This anger stemmed from various issues in her past, and she found it challenging to distinguish between him as a spouse and him as a parent.
Even though Ronald may not have always been kind to Rihanna’s mother, she still praised him as “probably one of the best fathers in the world.” In her words, his behavior towards her mother paled in comparison to the excellent father he was.
Rihanna confided that she reconciled with Ronald and managed to bridge the distance between them, saying ‘I was finally able to heal and connect with him.’

In recent years, Rihanna and her father have encountered several challenges. In 2019, Rihanna brought a lawsuit against Ronald for misrepresentation, false endorsement, and invasion of privacy, alleging that he and his business partner had deceptively claimed an affiliation with Fenty Entertainment, which is associated with the singer known for “Love on the Brain.” The case was eventually dropped in 2021.
