Well, shucks! Ripple‘s RLUSD has gone and done it again, folks! It’s now the crème de la crème, the cat’s pajamas, the top dog of stablecoins according to Bluechip’s rankings. And with an “A” rating, no less! 🎉
Bluechip’s Got Spoken, and RLUSD’s the Name
It seems Ripple USD (RLUSD) has shot to the top of Bluechip’s stablecoin charts like a barnstorming biplane, leaving all the other stablecoins in its dust. And why not? It’s got stability, governance, and asset backing that’s as solid as a rock 🤘. Bluechip, that esteemed independent rating agency, announced on July 18 that it had given RLUSD the thumbs up with an “A” rating. They tweeted on social media platform X on July 18, saying:
The highest-rated stablecoin on Bluechip has never changed. But today, RLUSD becomes the new #1 ranked stablecoin. Bluechip is beginning coverage for RLUSD by Ripple with an initial rating of A.
RLUSD got top marks in stability (0.91), management (0.84), and governance (0.86), which Bluechip classifies as “Stable” and “Very low risk.” It’s backed by a mix of U.S. Treasury bills, government money market funds, and bank deposits – assets that Bluechip says have about as much credit and duration risk as a mattress stuffed with cash 🤑. And let’s not forget that RLUSD is regulated by the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS), which is like having a stern but fair aunt 👵.
Bluechip’s stablecoin report card gave Gemini’s GUSD a solid third place and PayPal’s PYUSD a respectable fifth. Circle’s USDC got a “B+” – not bad, but not as good as RLUSD’s “A” 🤔. And then there’s Tether’s USDT, which got a big fat “D” – yikes! 😱
Ripple’s expanding its regulatory territory, applying for licenses left and right like a kid in a candy store 🍭. It’s got a license application cooking in Luxembourg for EU operations and a national trust bank charter in the U.S. that’s got everyone buzzing 🐝. Key partnerships with BNY Mellon for reserves custody and Amina Bank for direct support are like a big ol’ vote of confidence from the institutional folks 🤝. Ripple responded to the Bluechip rating announcement on July 18 on X, saying:
Built for enterprise use cases, RLUSD delivers the security, compliance, and scale global businesses demand. We appreciate Bluechip’s A rating and recognition of RLUSD as the market’s most trusted stablecoin.
