RITZ’s maker is asking people to put the famed cracker down.
Mondelēz Global LLC, the company that manages the cracker brand, initiated a voluntary withdrawal on July 8 for four different sizes of RITZ cracker sandwiches due to a mislabeling issue. This error in labeling has the potential to pose a serious risk to certain individuals.
As reported by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the recall involves 8-pack, 20-pack, and 40-pack cartons of RITZ Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches, as well as the 20-pack RITZ Filled Cracker Sandwich Variety Pack carton. The agency has pointed out that individual packs labeled as cheese variety might mistakenly contain peanut butter variety cracker sandwiches.
Individuals with a peanut allergy or high sensitivity should be aware that consuming this product could trigger a potentially severe or fatal allergic response, as Mondelez Global LLC has warned. The affected packages clearly state on their labels that they contain peanuts, and include an allergen advisory notice.
The company stated that no injuries or illnesses linked to the tainted RITZ items have been reported, but they are initiating a recall as a preventive measure.
Mondolez Global LLC also shed light on how it uncovered the potential mixup.
Following the discovery of potential issues with film packaging rolls, supplied by another company, which were used for wrapping individually packaged peanut butter products, Mondelez Global LLC has initiated a recall. Measures are being implemented to prevent this problem from happening again in the future.
The notice additionally highlighted that the affected RITZ items, which were distributed across the country, should not be consumed by individuals with peanut sensitivities. Instead, it’s recommended they dispose of these sandwich-style crackers.
