Netflix is facing criticism after announcing another price increase, just after introducing a cheaper plan with ads for customers unhappy with previous price hikes. This week’s changes raise the cost of the ad-supported standard plan by $1 per month, while the standard and premium plans will each increase by $2 a month. Netflix also raised prices by similar amounts in January 2025 and October 2023.
Netflix recently raised prices again, and unlike last time—when the increase was linked to adding live TV—they haven’t explained why this time. Customers are frustrated with the constant price increases and the removal of features like phone casting. Now, other streaming services are playfully poking fun at the situation online, using memes and social media to highlight the issue—a strategy clearly driven by a savvy millennial marketing team.

After Netflix announced another price increase on X (formerly Twitter), streaming service Tubi cleverly responded with a playful jab: “raising my price from free to free.” The tweet quickly went viral, sparking a flood of supportive memes from users. Many expressed their love for Tubi, with comments like “That’s why I love you, Tubi” and “I’ll never quit you, Tubi.” One user even poked fun at Prime Video, which also recently raised prices and now makes some users watch ads even after paying for a subscription, saying they’d happily stick with Tubi’s free, ad-supported model.
Netflix prices have recently increased by around $2 per plan. Now, a standard plan with ads costs $8.99 per month, a standard plan costs $19.99, and a premium plan is $26.99. It also now costs $7.99 per month to add an extra member to a plan with ads, or $9.99 per month for a plan without ads.
