Robert Patrick Breaks Silence on DCU Future and Wants to Return Again After His ‘Peacemaker’ Death

Many actors have appeared in major comic book adaptations, but few get a second chance after their character dies. Robert Patrick, known for his role in Terminator 2, is one of the exceptions. Though his character, Auggie Smith, died in the first season of James Gunn’s series, that wasn’t the end for him in the DC Universe. Even after his character died again in Season 2 – this time a version from another universe – Patrick hasn’t closed the door on potentially returning to the series in the future.

Patrick has had a successful career since his early role in Terminator 2, appearing in popular shows like The X-Files, Reacher (on Prime Video), and 1923 and Tulsa King (on Paramount+). But joining James Gunn’s DC Universe feels different. Even though his character has died twice, Patrick is hopeful he might reprise the role again. He recently shared this with ScreenRant:

I’m really lucky to be working with incredibly talented people right now. I’ve already collaborated with Taylor Sheridan on two shows, ‘1923’ and ‘Tulsa King,’ and he has many more projects coming up. I’m open to any good role, so I’m ready for whatever comes next if it’s a good fit.

Robert Patrick Had the Chance to Play Two Versions of the Same Character in ‘Peacemaker’

Robert Patrick was surprised to be asked back as Auggie Smith in the second season of Peacemaker. He hadn’t been told he’d be returning and only found out by unexpectedly running into his fellow actor, Steve Agee.

I was actually surprised to learn about Season 2 of Peacemaker. I found out by chance when I bumped into Steve Agee while walking my dogs. He asked if I knew I was returning, and I hadn’t heard anything about it! He filled me in, and I was really excited. Of course, I’m happy to come back if they want me.

Patrick was thrilled to play the same character in two different ways, and he was eager to repeat the experience thanks to the director’s vision.

As an actor, it’s a really special opportunity to revisit a character and deliver a strong performance. I’ve worked with many directors throughout my career, but James Gunn is truly one of the best. He fosters a comfortable and collaborative atmosphere on set, which allows actors to really connect with and trust their director.

Although there aren’t any immediate plans for a third season of Peacemaker – which many fans are disappointed about after the season 2 finale – characters from the show may still appear in future DC projects. Will we see Robert Patrick reprise his role as Auggie Smith? Or might he play another character, like Michael Rooker, who has appeared in three different roles across James Gunn’s work?
