Robert Patrick Thought Rocky Was So ‘Inspirational’ In High School, But It Was Even Cooler When He Got To Ask Sly Stallone About It Years Later

Robert Patrick and Sylvester Stallone are facing off as rivals in the new season of Tulsa King, available on Paramount+. The two actors worked together nearly 30 years ago on the film Cop Land, and Patrick has always admired Stallone, considering him both a friend and a major influence on his career. Patrick recently shared how much Stallone’s work has meant to him over the years.

It Started Long Before They Met

Patrick has admired Sylvester Stallone for years, even before they collaborated on the 1997 film about dishonest police officers in New Jersey. He recently shared the story of how far back that admiration goes in an interview with UPI.

I really enjoyed working with Sylvester Stallone on the movie Cop Land, and he’s become an important person in my life. Rocky was incredibly inspiring to me when I was growing up.

Patrick says that watching Rocky made him believe anyone can achieve their goals with enough determination.

I was a high school athlete, and that movie really showed me that with enough belief and effort, you can achieve your dreams.

This experience eventually led to Patrick pursuing a career in acting. While filming Cop Land, he openly discussed the movie with Sylvester Stallone, and that conversation further fueled his passion.

I asked Sylvester Stallone how he came up with the idea for Rocky, and his explanation really resonated with me. He said it was a way of representing his own struggles as an actor – he simply wanted an opportunity. That made me admire him even more.

The movie Rocky is a classic underdog story, both within its plot and behind the scenes with Sylvester Stallone’s own journey to success. It’s inspiring to see someone like Robert Patrick, now a celebrated actor, drawing motivation from that same story and using it to achieve his own goals.

It’s often said that meeting your heroes can be disappointing, but that wasn’t the case here. Even after working with Sylvester Stallone thirty years ago and throughout Stallone’s incredibly successful career, Patrick continues to admire his Tulsa King co-star, and the feeling is clearly mutual – Stallone recently shared his own praise for Patrick in an interview with TopMob. Their professional relationship is a great example for everyone.
