Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films have been a huge success and are considered some of the best adaptations of a novel into a movie in recent times. Although it seemed like the director was pausing work on the series, production for Part Three has already begun. Robert Pattinson, known for his role as Batman, will appear in a currently unknown role, and he recently shared how challenging – but also beneficial – it was to film in the extreme heat of the desert. Here’s a closer look at everything happening with the next Dune movie.
The third Dune movie, previously called Messiah, will take place years after the events of Dune: Part Two. While fans who watched the first two films (available on Max) are excited for the continuation, Robert Pattinson recently told IndieWire how physically demanding filming has been.
Filming ‘Dune’ in the desert was…intense. The heat was absolutely draining, to the point where I honestly couldn’t even think straight. It was almost peaceful, in a weird way – my brain completely shut off. I just found myself completely trusting Denis [Villeneuve] and going with whatever direction he suggested. It was total surrender to the vision, because frankly, I had zero cognitive function left!
It’s actually quite relieving to hear. Despite the pressure of working on a large film like Dune: Part Three, it seems Robert Pattinson’s experience with heat exhaustion surprisingly helped him let go of any worries or anxieties about joining such a successful series. You can only picture how much he sweated while filming the movie, especially given his previous role in Twilight.
The intense heat on set actually helped Robert Pattinson focus while filming the third Dune movie. The exhaustion made him more receptive to director Denis Villeneuve’s guidance, allowing him to react instinctively instead of overanalyzing things. It was like a form of physical training that prepared him mentally for his role.

You can start watching the Dune movies and thousands of other titles on HBO Max for as little as $10.99 a month. The Basic With Ads plan provides access to a wide variety of movies, shows, documentaries, and more. See the deal here.
Fans are eager to learn what director Denis Villeneuve has planned for Dune: Part Three. If the film closely follows the novel Messiah, it will take place years after Part Two, showing Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides ruling as Emperor. He’s fully embraced his identity as Muad’Dib, the messianic figure for the Fremen people. Beyond Robert Pattinson’s intriguing part, audiences are also excited to see Anya Taylor-Joy’s Alia Atreides, after her brief appearance in the second movie.

With his role in Dune: Part Three, Robert Pattinson continues to take on big franchise films alongside smaller, independent projects. While he’s still widely known for playing Edward in the Twilight movies, he recently starred as Batman. However, fans will have to wait quite a while to see what director Matt Reeves has in store for The Batman: Part II.
We’ll find out all the details when Dune: Part Three comes out in theaters on December 18th of next year, as planned. Hopefully, we’ll learn more soon, including what role Robert Pattinson will have in the film.
