On Monday, rock star David Roach revealed that he has been diagnosed with a highly aggressive form of cancer, according to an update on his health status.
As a devoted follower of the heavy metal scene, I’ve been following Junkyard’s lead singer since their inception in 1987. Recently, he shared some personal health news – he’s been diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma, a type of cancer that’s currently affecting his head, neck, and throat.
Just last week, David confessed that the latest outcomes left us utterly devastated, prompting the band to establish a GoFundMe page to cover their mounting medical expenses.
The band recently posted a message on their Instagram from their singer and his partner Jennifer, which read as follows: ‘Firstly, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for the extraordinary support and affection you’ve extended to us amidst these immensely difficult circumstances.’
‘Regrettably, due to the impactful news we got on Tuesday, we find ourselves at a loss for words at the moment. It takes time for us to fully grasp and respond to this situation.’
Following a persistent fever and cough with David, we ended up in the emergency room, and the test results left us reeling, as they turned our world upside down.

They went on saying: ‘It’s heartbreaking and transformative, and we’re making our way through the feelings and unpredictability it brings.’
David’s displaying an astonishing amount of strength and adaptability, maintaining his wit even amidst difficult times. It underscores just how remarkable he truly is.
However, we’re well aware that the path before us is incredibly challenging. Yet, David remains steadfast in his optimism, and we’ll require an abundance of your affection and blessings throughout this journey.
I appreciate your patience and understanding. Your generosity and solidarity are priceless to us. Kindly remember David during our journey, as we move forward one day at a time.
Skin cancer that’s not melanoma, specifically, is known as squamous cell carcinoma. Unlike melanoma, this type of cancer arises from squamous cells, which are flat cells lining various surfaces within the body, including the skin. Additionally, squamous cell carcinoma tends to grow and spread at a slower rate compared to melanoma.
Melanoma tends to spread faster in your body than non-melanoma.
Approximately 20% of all types of cancer are non-melanoma skin cancers, while about 90% of all diagnosed skin conditions fall into this category.
In its early stages, it’s generally quite treatable, but if left undetected, it may advance to affect other parts of the body, making treatment more challenging.

Previously shared by the band, a message stated: ‘You may be aware that our dear friend David is valiantly fighting against a formidable enemy – aggressive squamous cell carcinoma, which has impacted his head, neck, and throat.’
At present, David needs constant care and surveillance, so Jennifer, his fiancée, has had to leave her regular job to dedicate herself fully as his round-the-clock caregiver.
They’ve requested help with disability and full-time caregiver support, but the waiting time to get approved is quite prolonged. This lengthy process has left them in a critical, difficult position.
As a die-hard admirer, I can’t help but express my deep sympathy for David. This unexpected setback came at a time when he had finally discovered contentment, balance, and success in his life – a moment he truly deserved after years of struggle. It’s heartbreaking to witness the disruption of his hard-earned happiness.
