Dan Houser, a co-founder of Rockstar Games, is releasing a new edition of his comic book, American Caper, next year. After more than two decades at Rockstar, where he helped create the critically acclaimed Red Dead Redemption 2—a landmark open-world game about the end of the Wild West—Houser left the company. While many expected him to work on Grand Theft Auto VI, he chose to pursue a different path, launching his own company, Absurd Ventures, and continuing his creative work there.
After a few years of development, Absurd Ventures is finally releasing projects, and Dan Houser is leading the charge. He’s working on two new video games, as well as other creative endeavors. His latest project is a comic book called American Caper, which offers a gritty look at life in rural America. The comic retains Houser’s signature style – featuring flawed, funny characters and a tone similar to a smaller-scale Grand Theft Auto story. The first issue came out in November and has been praised by both fans of Houser’s previous work and general comic book readers.
Dan Houser’s American Caper Will Get a Collected Edition Paperback in 2026
I’m so excited for fellow comic readers who like to wait a bit and then dive right in – there’s great news! The first story arc of American Caper is getting collected in a paperback! It’s called American Caper Volume 1: Red-Pilled Blues, and it includes the first four issues. You’ll be able to grab it on June 23rd, 2026, for $19.99. I’ve already pre-ordered mine at Barnes & Noble, but you can also find it on Amazon or through your local comic shop!
If you don’t want to wait for the complete collection, you can read the issues as they’re released each month. The first issue comes out on Christmas Eve, and new issues will arrive in comic book stores monthly after that. Just be aware that issue #5, which comes out in March before this collection, isn’t included. So, if you wait for Volume 1, you’ll miss a part of the story. Still, this is a great release for fans, and we expect to see more collections in the future.
Will you be picking up this book? Let me know in the comments!
