Rod Fergusson joins 2K’s Cloud Chamber as head of BioShock franchise

Rod Fergusson, who just concluded a five-year stint at Blizzard Entertainment, is now leading the BioShock series at Cloud Chamber – a subsidiary of game developer 2K – according to his announcement made public today.

Hey there gamers! I’m back and couldn’t be more excited to dive back into the world of 2K. Guess what? I’ve been given the honor to helm the BioShock franchise as its new boss, leading Cloud Chamber in the creation of the upcoming BioShock game, as well as venturing into exciting new territory like the Netflix movie in development. Can’t wait to share more with you all!

Fergusson additionally verified that Cloud Chamber is undergoing “reorganization,” as reported by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, who mentioned that the company will be letting go of some of its employees.

Fergusson expressed eagerness about the upcoming weeks, yet acknowledged that the studio reorganization is challenging for the team. He expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the work done thus far, and emphasized his dedication to creating a BioShock game that both the team and players will be proud of and enjoy.

He went on to say, ‘At present, there’s a stream of onboarding processes coming up, which I’m eager to provide updates on as soon as possible.’

In simple terms, 2K revealed the launch of Cloud Chamber studio back in December 2019 along with a new BioShock game. However, it’s worth noting that in August, Bloomberg reported some changes in the leadership at Cloud Chamber due to a recent unfavorable publisher evaluation, and they also mentioned the cancellation of an earlier planned BioShock remake this year.

Stepping back into the immersive world of BioShock feels like home again, seeing as I joined the ranks at 2K in August 2012 to turn around a rocky production for BioShock Infinite. As reported by Polygon in 2014, it was a collective belief amongst the team that the game might never have seen the light of day without my involvement.
